Despite the powers above deleting my first posting on this topic I'm not discouraged... Reading through the Meridian 2006 brochure I found these two gems: Meridian systems are ideal for multichannel operation, some units supporting as many as 12 loudspeakers. With the latest multichannel systems from Meridian, you can even experience surround sound with height. Does anyone actually think these will materialize within the lifetime of the brochure? Mind you, I have heard that there is great new DSP work waiting in the wings from the team that brought us MLP...

The 861's support for straight Ambisonic WXYZ periphonic format allows the 4 carrier channel source to be synthesized into as many channels as there are DACs in the processor, including height channels (because it is encoded in there) (height, meaning above and below you).

VK: They have said that they are working on > 8 channel support so perhaps it's going to be sooner rather than later?

For 2+2+2 you can use 10 speakers (only 8 active at the same time in think) Only this is pretty useless if you look at the number of titles.
