Please note my previous request should show my system as 606/602 & 555/501 combos. I need advice on new speakers please. I'm looking at B&W 805s or Wilson Benesch Arc's. Any advice or suggestions of anything better much appreciated. Can't really go much above 2500. Thanks Alex

I love my WB Arcs for their sweet top end. The PMC OB1s are also well worth an audition and in your price range.

Speaker choice is a very personal thing so go and listen.

The 555 isn't the most powerful amplifier in the would, and its current driving capabilities are limited (due to the PSU size).

I would suggest that you bought a s/h 557 and sold the 555, should cost you about 350-400 to change and used the remaining budget for the speakers. Personally I'd think that you would get better results with this.

It still leaves you with a budget of 2100 for the speakers.

As Cliff said speakers are a very personal thing, but since I'm a big Shahinian Fan I would suggest listening to a pair of Shahinian Arcs, your budget would allow you to buy some nearly new ones.

All the best

Stuff I've heard recently that I've been very impressed w/include Amphion and ATC. I heard the Amphion Argon2 monitors vs. PMC monitors, and preferred the Amphions. I'd definitely check out their floorstanders -- there is the Creon and another model. Notably open midrange.

Have become a huge believer in ATC active speakers -- tremendous transparency. I'd seek out their passive models for a listen. I'm also a VMPS owner/fan, but they might be hard to audition in the UK.

From both a value and absolute standpoint, I've not found B&W to my taste.

Passive ATCs are avail at that price. As are the 10A actives. Not sure what the 20A actives would be in the UK.

Adding to chrislayeruk's comments; you might want to contemplate home-auditioning a pair of M3100's with your existing 501.

Current price of M3100's is 1,845. Matching stands an extra 330.

When I home auditioned DSP3100's they demonstrated a much louder and clearer improvement over my existing 551/555/A500's.

You guys are mixing M3100's with DSP3100's.

DSP3100's (Digital) will not connect to your analog preamp.
M3100 (Active Analog) will connect.

Saltire's are DSP3100's.
The ones SpinalTap refers to are M3100's.

Also you would toss your Amp, since your analog preamp would connect directly to the Speakers.

DSP3100's are priced at 2,595.
Buy lots of other new kit at the same time and the price may start too creep down to 1,845.......!!!
