Ian,

As it happens I have not, I thought that would only be necessary if you were using auto controller config, I have manually set the 568 as the controller and the rest as not controller.

However I shall zap it this evening to see if this stops the IR randomness!

Thanks

S

What fresh hell is this..............

Need to add another source to the 562V I have spent over an hour and worn a laptop battery down tried every permutaion of speeds from 2400 to 19200, and all flow controls, data downloads OK, but wont go back up.

Normally set on 8,N,1 None @ 9600.........not working today though!!

Any ideas??

S

[EDIT] to say it finally aceepted the config after an hour and a half........and the dusting down of my retired laptop.........it shouldn't really be so difficult though :-)

Never, ever, get rid of old laptops with serial ports and Win98. These always work OK. smile

Seriously though, the comms. on all Meridian products is pretty flaky. Just look at all the threads about firmware/config uploads over the years.

MalcomW,

Yep my 568 was always a bit playful, but apperas to have been sorted by the last firmware update, but my latest pet, the 562V is a world of pain!!

It is much more badly behaved than the 568 ever was!!

Hi S

Is it a 562V or a v2? I though that the original 562V had no PC set up?

Cheers

George,

I think you have properly hit the nail on the head there, the first manual I downloaded was for a later version (to study the beast while awaiting its arrival).

I've just checked the manual that came with it and lo and behold there is actually no mention of config from a PC!!!

Therefore I shall now be quiet, and perhaps be thankful that with intense stubborn persistence it will accept a config from the computer :-)

By the way, can I say thanks to all for assistance, its all now set up and behaving as it should, which is nice..........lets hope we dont have a power cut!

Cheers

S

Hi S

How you maged to get it to accept PC set up is anyone's guess! That port is supposed to be for RS232 control!

At least you know that in future, the 562 is a front panel set up machine, and if you do need to add nay new sources, etc, it's actually quite quick to do. Glad you are all sorted.

Cheers

George

George,

A simple blend of ignorance and stubborness!!

However I have noticed the firmware is 2.0, I am sure on Meridian info, or perhaps here the firmware stated was 1.xx.

It has been back to Meridian at some point in its life, as it has an MC input and the onboard DAC, so perhaps 2.0 is a bizarre Beta release that it happened to receive as they were developing the 562v2?

While I have your attention is there any info on the runes dispalyed on the front panel for mapping inputs, eg when in config, you select your source, and I recall copy to change the input, except I would expect to see a1, a2, d1, d2, 01, 02 etc, for analogue, digital, and optical inputs, but it doesnt seen to be the case.

Thanks

S

Hi S

I did wonder if there was a later firmware loaded. If you want a copy of the original 562v manual I can email it to you.

You are right about how the input options for each source should appear when you press the copy button. If they are not coming up, what are you seeing instead? IIRC, you use copy to go through each menu option associated with that input, but then use the up and down volume keys to adjust your selection within each menu item. I've done that previously with the MSR, using the four cursor keys in the centre, ie East West North and South. The E/W keys do what the Copy button does, and the N/S keys change the value, so let's say CD A1 appears on the screen after you have pressed < or > or Copy. Pressing N or S should give you the A1, A2, A3 D1, D2 etc options.

I hope that makes sense!

Cheers

George

George,

Thanks for the offer but the 562V came with the original manual, thats how I discovered configuring from the PC was conspicuous by its absence :-)

While awaiting delivery I downloaded the later version from Meridian (to get to know the enemy!), in the true style of an end user did not read the earlier version properly when it arrived!

I am going to leave it alone at present (never change a running system), but I need to add my A77 at some point, so I'll pester sir for some guidance then. I am certain it wasn't as obvious as d1, a1 01, etc......

Thanks again

S
