Hi,

Setup:
G68XXV, Theta Dreadnaught II, Joseph Audio speakers, Crestron controller, Pioneer DV59avi DVD player.

New G68XXV user. Great sound. Have a few questions. I am getting random snaps from my center and left surround speaker when the G68 loses sync or the surround mode changes on digital signals. For example, when watching cable TV sometimes cable signal goes a little bad and my G69 goes from Cinema to PLII. When this happens I sometimes get a snap from the center or left rear surround. It also happens when I change channels and the surround goes from Cinema to PLII or vise versa. I also get snaps about 60% of the time when making adjustments to my surround settings. For example, I change the compression from off to something else, and about 60% of the time I will get a snap from either the center or left surround speaker. I have never heard the right surround speaker snap ever. Can anyone help me understand why this is happening? Is this normal? Can anyone help me understand why I never get a snap from the right surround??

On another subject, I see that the RS232 direct access commands for the 861 also work on the G68. Meridian does not list them on the G68 RS232 sheet.

Thanks for the advice.

I also have a G68XXV and use active analogue speakers. Source is G98DH.

I only get clicks when the DSP mode changes (e.g. when removing a DVD and the system reverts to Trifield). I get very few noises otherwise which are due to the loss of lock of the processor on the source. I generally just turn down the volume when changing discs.

Have you got the latest firmware loaded?

Thanks for the information. Do you use your G68 to watch TV? Do you get any "pops" or "snaps" when you change channels and lose digital lock for a second? Some of my cable channels also cuase the G68 to lose digital lock since they play the feature in Dolby Digital and play the comeercials in 2-channel. So, when a commercial pops on the G68 jumps from Cinema to PLII.

Thanks,

Greg

Folks,

More data. I also get "snaps" from the center and left rear when I change DSP modes on the front panel. Input is Pioneer DV59avi with Trifield as the default mode. It does not happen every time I change the DSP mode. I'd say it occurs around 50% of the time. Anyone else get this?

Thanks,

Greg

Folks,

Not sure if anyone is interested, but here are some more detailed tests I ran.

Setup:
Surround Sound Processor: Meridian G68XXV
Serial No: 1016XX
FIFO: 1.3
Micro: v4316
Display: 025
DSPC: C0004C
DSPD: D8404C
DSPE: E00011
DSPF: F8404C
DVD Player: Pioneer DV59avi
Control System: Crestron MP2E
VCR: Sony SLV-777HF
Cable: Scientific Atlanta 4200HD
Monitor: Panasonic TH-PWD4UY
Power Conditioner: BPT 3.5 Signature Plus

Test Description:
Press mute button on remote to trigger mute on G68XXV. Press mute button on remote to trigger mute off on G68XXV. Repeat procedure 50 times.

Test 1:
Input on G68XXV: Cable
Source Material: Dolby Digital 5.1 from Scientific Atlanta 4200HD
DSP Mode: Cinema
Center channel Snaps: 9
Left Rear Surround Channel Snaps: 13

Test 2:
Input on G68XXV: Cable
Source Material: Dolby Digital 5.1 from Scientific Atlanta 4200HD
DSP Mode: THX
Center channel Snaps: 10
Left Rear Surround Channel Snaps: 6

Test 3:

DSP Mode: Discrete
Center channel Snaps: 12
Left Rear Surround Channel Snaps: 8

Test 4:

Source Material: 2-Channel Material from Scientific Atlanta 4200HD
DSP Mode: Trifield
Center channel Snaps: 7
Left Rear Surround Channel Snaps: 22

Test 6:
Input on G68XXV: DVD
Source Material: 2-Channel CD Material from Pioneer DV-59avi
DSP Mode: Trifield
Center channel Snaps: 5
Left Rear Surround Channel Snaps: 6
Front Left: 2

General Observations:
1)Snaps from Cable are easily audible from 10-15 feet away with the volume set to ~57
2)With source (Scientific Atlanta and Pioneer) turned off, there are no snaps from any speakers with any input and any DSP setting
3)Snaps when input is set to DVD are much lower than the snaps heard when the input is set to cable.
4)Pops also heard from CD input setting as well as tuner.
5)Tried power on/off. Reloading firmware, did not affect results of tests.
6)Also hear “snap” intermittently when changing sources, changing DSP modes, and selecting compression levels for Dolby Digital sources. “Snap” always comes from Center or Left Rear Surround channel.
7)“Snap” also randomly occurs when changing cable channels from a channel that is DD 5.1 to a channel which is 2-Channel.
