Most importantly, have you retyped the G98?
Second. I had the clicking in the G68 when I first upgraded. This, and an apparently unstable picture concerned me so I reflashed and got problems. Since the upgrade, I only temporarily connected the G98 so I have not connected sound so cannot comment on the clicking.
It may be that the clicking went away when I retyped, it maybe that it is still there. My apparent picture instability was to do with me viewing a menu on a my sons DVD that I was unfamiliar with - Madagascar - the crates on the beach juddered but trying this in another player it behaves the same.
As for blanking when a disc is played, I think this has got worse. I think it is my display resynching to input - the only thing that I can think of it that it needs to do this when HDCP is triggered at the start of the main feature so a bit of handshaking needs to go on. I have asked Meridian for an option to keep HDCP active irrespective of the copy protect flag on the source material. Either that or for some reason the output of the G98 is being blanked - this may also trigger the clicking of the G68. If this is the case, its a retrograde step and maybe the G98 should output a blank screen instead. I notice something about implementing an HDMI mute function - not sure what this is but maybe it is related. Ian, The clicking mentioned is the mechanical clicking from the G98, I have no sound problems. It seems to be when switching between tasks. I have done a re-type but the problem remains. It does seem to be a HDCP issue as I had the same with 1.73 but got no splash screen, it seems to go a little further now, my screen is a Pioneer 434HDE. I've now managed to get it working with the disks after a hard reset, the problem now seems to only happen when starting from standby. It looks like I'm going to have to switch off at the back each time I want to play a different disk. Surely these sort of problems should have been detected prior to release but I also understand that the screen could be part of the problem.

I haven't checked, but is it so that all those who have had problems with upgrading their machines have had USB/serial adapters?

O.K Haven't been able to download 'Common Installer' in 2 days and no longer seem to have an operable version of mConfig on my pc even though any attempts to uninstall or delete the entire thing are met with 'Access Denied'.
Ideally I would like to remove mConfig and all associated files and start again. When the original download was finished , the search for updates just froze at 20% ( even after turning off firewall !)
How can I remove the program in order to start over ? Or how can I get over the 20% of updates checked stage ?
Any ideas ?

there are unistallers in the M folders dont use setup or use windows controll panel then manualy delete everything Meridian the dmanually delete every registry entry. Then dowload a new setup.exe (common installer9 then its the same anywhay you will get stuck at 45% or something when trying to get mconfig

Thanks for that , sounds like a great disco So I'm basically left with no mConfig to set up my kit for the foreseeable future ? I'm beginning to wonder was this thing tested at all or just put up there in the hope of placating some angry G owners ? I still cant get past 20% of the download.Maybe they should have a mirror site ? Or at least post here if they are aware of / doing something about fixing it........... ~M~

Hi Manus
I think that the 20% as at the point that all the software is checked from the Meridian web site. My router firewall detects in excess of 120 files being checked at this stage. A secondary Symantec firewall on my PC also asks for access to the net.
So it would not be unusual for it to sit at 20% for quite some time, especially if you have a dialup connection - in which case I would say that many minutes would not be unusual. I have just run setup twice, with broadband it took 40 seconds and nearly 3 minutes so there is quite alot of time variation with this stage of the process. May also be worth checking if your firewall is blocking anything.

Why would "Help/check for updates" be greyed out ? I don't recall that being the case before...

Well, with bated breath I used WinFup to load the latest firmware into my G98DH. I used serial port/null modem cable/serial port connection and it seems to have worked!!
After the update, I retyped to Type 3 and then overwrote this with my configuration file. I will try various discs later to see if all is OK.
Nick,
My new Mconfig V2290 does not have the "Check for updates" option greyed out. However, if you go to the G98 properties, 1080p is not an option you can select from the scaler output options. Also, rolling the cursor over this option gives a help message which seems to imply that these resolutions are output on HDMI AND component. I think this is wishful thinking and incorrect.

Can people report whether the 1080P gives an improvement in PQ who have the 2.11 firmware version loaded ?

On my 1366x768 LCD screen, 1080p downscaled by the display to fit looks slightly softer but I have problem with motion so I will be sticking with 720p and upscaled again by the display to fill the screen. Neither are obviously ideal but I prefer the larger image to the slight image degregation with double scaling which is still far better than simply deinterlacing and letting the display do all the work.
