Hey All,

Tried some of the stuff listed in other posts to no avail -- want to hook a DVD recorder to my G68 to accept input from whatever source I'm using at the time. What should my connections/settings be for it? I need to use the s-video and analog audio outs.

Thanks.

Connect the DVD recorder to Zone 2 outputs (analogue audio and S-video) and set the Copy/Zone outputs to use main inputs. It will then follow the selected listening/viewing programme.

Tried that and no go, but I"ll recheck everything. By using main inputs, does that mean setting Copy to 'source'?

Ok, I am using the G98 video switching now but when I was using the G68XXV, each source has individual Copy/Zone 2/3 settings. In particular, Use Main Inputs should be set to Y. (Default = Last Valid). Check these with Mconfig. You can set every conceivable option on these. There was a Zone function upgrade in one of the firmware changes so check you have the latest versions.

You are correct that on the front panel Copy = Source is the correct setting.

Two more questions. Does the G68 downconvert component inputs for s-video output?

Where in MConfig is copy/zone control located?

Gather that copy/zone in MConfig is done by dragging connections in the connections window, no?

And though I can't definitively find mention in product literature, I suspect that my component sources won't come out of the s-video outs. Do people use switchers of some sort to feed a recorder?

One other thing that makes no sense to me -- both my Tivo and Sat receiver are hooked to the G68 via optical. I can get the Tivo audio to pass through the analog outs to my recorder, but not the Sat. Have messed and matched the copy/zone settings on both, so this is a head-scratcher.

And where in the literature is a discussion of copy/zone settings and functionality?

I know you guys are hanging on every word of this exciting narrative.

As far as I know, the G68 does not convert video - only switches it. This is why I am using the G98 to switch and convert my video as on that box all the outputs are "live" at once. On audio, digital feeds are converted and output on the analogue zone/copy outputs.

In Mconfig you have to connect all the system components in the graphical representation of your system to get the same options available to configure on the sources tabs. I don't know about the difference between your two inputs if you have all the settings the same.

As for the manuals (sigh) it's the usual minimalism from Meridian. In fact you can barely see the connectors on the drawings in the manuals let alone find out how to configure them.

Yes, you are correct. Composite was just a little below my horizon. smile

Found a line in the manual, almost a non-sequiter where it was placed, that it downconverts s-video to composite.
