If you were to use a G91 in a scenario where it was not the audio/video switcher, but was the processor for DD signals (i.e, it's hooked up to 5 DSP speakers), would I be correct in assuming that if you were playing a CD or DVD, you could output the audio on Aux Out Digital, then bring it back in again on one of the digital inputs for processing?

Why not directly process the signal since it's already there?
I'm missing something here Gerald.

Hi John -
I admit it sounds like an odd request, but I think it makes sense though. If I go ahead with my plan to get a scaler, I'd want to ideally take all switching (both video and audio) duties away from the G91.
Any audio originating from the G91 would be an input for the scaler (along with others such as satellite TV, computer, games console etc), with a single digital feed back from the scaler to the G91 for processing and distribution to the DSP speakers.
The idea is that I can just leave the G91 on a single audio and video input.*
Does that make things any clearer?
Rgds,
Gerald.
*Edit
Sorry, I meant just a single audio input. No video inputs to the G91.

Yes, but I don't think this would work.
I'll have to play with it in MConfig for a little while to see if it can work.

Hmm. Thanks John. Bit of a bugger if true - I was hoping that easing the switching of everything would help me get it past the wife!
Logically though, I am struggling to see why it couldn't be done. Afterall, the G91 can output a native DD signal to be processed by an external processor, and can accept a native DD signal on its digital inputs. It doesn't have to "know" that the signal actually originated internally - I'm just trying to pull the wool over its eyes in order to have everything being switched by the scaler!

Gerald, This configuration might work (no promise). Right click on the G91, and select properties. On the Audio tab, under Aux MHR select NO. This should allow you to pass DD/DTS streams to the scaler. Here's an image that shows what the Audio Properties Page should look like: ![[Linked Image from filefarmer.com]](http://www.filefarmer.com/jkotches/ht_images/mconfig-g91-prop-audio.jpg) Then build a User Defined source for the scaler with the appropriate Audio Inputs/Outputs for the Scaler. Connect AUX out to a digital input on the Scaler, and connect the digital out on the scaler to a digital in on the G91. Connect the rest of your digital audio inputs to the scaler too Here's an image of that connection diagram. Note that I only have one input and output on the scaler at this time. KISS for illustrative purposes, right? ![[Linked Image from filefarmer.com]](http://www.filefarmer.com/jkotches/ht_images/mconfig-connect-1024.jpg) The only negative of this is that you won't be able to use the MHR to control all of your components, but I'm guessing you aren't anyway Regards,

Gerald, you could also consider using the G91 with a HDmax 421, assign audio and video to the different sources and then link the hdmax to the scaler. Or am I missing something here?

John -
Exactly what I was thinking of - thanks for having a look in MConfig for me. Gives me some reassurance...
I think I'll check with Meridian directly to see if they think it will be a problem. It's probably a pretty strange request, and I really don't want to take the plunge on the scaler without knowing for sure.
donron -
This has all come about from realising that I will shortly be needing HDMI switching. Whilst a 421 is an option, at 425 compared to "just" 1100 for a box that not only does 4>1 HDMI switching, but a whole lot else as well, I'm looking into my options carefully.

Gerald, I had my blinders on, as I use the G91 as an external decoder feeding an 861 down the road I sometimes forget that the G91 can be a processor itself Cheers,

I've actually come round to thinking that this wouldn't work. It's doing my head in trying to understand the implications!
Incidentally John, have you seen the details on the PixelMagic HD MediaBox that's due in February? Might be of interest if you're not 100% happy with your Photobridge...
/edit
The more I think about this, the more I think I might need to re-think my entire set-up.
If I get the DVDO VP30 and take all swtiching and scaling responsibilities away from the G91, then what's the point of the G91? I'm going to start a new thread on this...
