Hi, I am new to the forum and am thinking about buying a new Home Cinema/Hi-Fi system based around the G68,G98 and G55.

A couple of questions!

Does anyone here have any experience of using these components with B and W speakers (specifically the 802D's?). Here in the UK the majority of dealers that stock Meridian also stock B and W so it's actually not that easy auditioning other brands but the system does sound great.

Anyone recommend a multi channel amp other than the G55? Wondered if it's an area where I could either save money or get better performance.

Thanks very much

Hi - G98DH / G68J very nice together. Cyrus mono amps very good... Do you need the room correction? If not, G91A ?

Fredo - The G55 on it's own would not power the B&W 802D sufficently but it may be ok to get 2 G55's and Bridge the ouputs so you would have 300 watts for the front 3 speakers and 4 x 100 watts for the rears, i would also look at Classe amps as they work really well with B&W's but they are expensive smile

Hi,

Yes, I do need room correction as my livng room doesn't lend itself to the perfect home cinema set up. I live in a relatively old house with a big fireplace where the screen should be!

I'll have a look at the Classe amps, I notice B&W are the distributor in the UK? I guess that means they must approve of them. Have you used them?

I did an A/B demo of G68/98 with G55/B&W802D and then the same front end with M's DSP 7000s.

Obviously this is my ears, but I thought the all M setup was an awful lot better. I don't like the B&Ws at all....lots of people do though! I can go into why if you want.

Classe amps are very good, also listen to the Krell multichannel range and Parasound too.

If you can arrange, try and hear the kit in your room, rarther than in dem rooms - if your spending that much, it's well worth doing!

If you need more power hunt around for a 558 power amp. A serious piece of kit that will drive anything.

Hi Fredo,

If you want to save some money on your G98DH drop me an e-mail at swilson27@optusnet.com.au and see if we can work out a suitable price. I was just about to list it on Audiogon this week.

Cheers, Stephen.

Fredo;

I have B&W 800D Fronts, HTM2D Center, N802 Rears, Velodyne DD18 Sub. The fronts are driven with Classe CAM/350s and the Center/Rears/Sub are driven with the Krell TAS. I have a 2 Channel Classe CP500 Delta series with HT pass thru to a Meridian G68 AXV. For source, I have the Esoteric DV-50s. I run balanced for most of the system... The setup sounds great. I have heard the M speakers in a store and didn't care for them, however I don't think they were setup right.

Have you considered Meridian DSPs or are you definitely going with B&W?

Thanks for all the advice.

I am considering the Meridian DSP's, I had a brief demo of a Meridian home cinema system which I think had the DSP 8000's and the sound was phenominal... the dealer played a DVD of The Eagles (Hotel California) reunion at what seemeed to be an Unplugged session. Really made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! bit beyond my budget though!

Sounds like I need to organise a demo of the B&W's with some Classe amps. Also the DSP's and maybe the Krell Showcase set-up. It would be great if I could do it all in one place but the way dealers and distributors seem to operate in the UK that's nigh on impossible! Any suggestions appreciated...I'd travel to find the right dealer.

Perhaps you should try a trio of 5200s with 3100 surrounds?
