I have not used the 518 before. Will I be able to use every digital input on all the three machines? If I connect something to the 565 and give the label AUX, will the 562v and 518 automatically understand that D1 on 565 is not D1 on the others and vice versa? Can I use all three D1 and 565 understands the differences in the setup?

The 518 Gives 4 Digital Inputs into the 565. You also Have an Analog Input to the 565 which you can expand with the 562v. With the comms leads this will give no problems as you will have the 565 as controler. You set up the 518, D1 = CD, D2 = Dab Radio, D3 = DVD etc (You Choose) You set the 565 to CD = Dig, DVD = Dig, Dab Radio = opt or analog etc again, you choose. Match the Input and output word lenths. Typicaly Input 16 bit, Output 24 Bit. It doesnt matter if you use Profesional or Consumer. Study the 518 Manual as to emphasis setting and Dither. And there you go. It is simple once you get into it. I have 565 z36.2a and A 518 596 and it sounds Great. Good Luck, Chris:)
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Each individual component only knows about its inputs. So and non useful answer to your question is that the 565 will only know about its D1 and not that of the 562v or 518.
Hopefully a more useful explanation is to look at it from the perspective of the sources available, ie those on the remote. In this case, each component knows how to deal with each source (or ignore it) and each component make up a little piece of the jogsaw that ultimately describes how a source is reouted from the initial input, ie D1 all the way through to output.
So for example you have a CD connected to D1 and DVD player on D2 of the 562v. The digital output of 562v's is connected to D1 on the 518 and the 518's output is connected to D1 on the 565.
When selecting CD, D1 on 562v is selected as input. For DVD, D2 is selected on 562v. However, for both sources, D1 is selected on both 518 and 565. For sources going direct into the 565, then the 518 and 562v will ignore the source and be selected as last valid.
So as long as there is a valid audio signal path from one compnent to another, all inputs on all components are technicallly valid for all sources. The limitation is the number of sources on the remote, some of which may be selected as phantom sources - same electrical connection but different presets.
Probably not easy to follow, but hope it helps.

Thank you very much. Super. A digital CD/DVD-DSD-writer I suppose will like to be placed at the 565 like a digital tape recorder? Or? I will digitize vinyl to DVD-A to see if it's possible to replace my Linn.
