Hi all,

I'm having an odd problem with Philips Pronto (RC5) control of some Meridian kit.

I'm using the RC5 commands from the white papers section of the official Meridian site, and have double checked that I've got everything type in properly, so I suspect that it's an equipment config problem.

Let me explain - I have two Meridian processor setups:

One (upstair) consists of a 562V and a 565. All sources go into the 565V, and a single digital feed goes into the 565 then onto the power amps. Meridian comms runs between the two.

The other (downstairs) has a 565V. All sources go into it. A single digital feed goes into a 518. A single digital feed goes out of the 518 into a 565, and then onto the power amps. Meridian comms runs between all three.

In terms of source configuration, everything is working fine. It's remote control of the volume that is the problem.

If I use my Pronto (configured as per the Meridian website) on the upstairs (562-565) system, then the volume buttons control the volume fine.

However, if I use the same Pronto with the same config on the downstairs (562-518-565) system, then the volume up and down buttons control something odd (whatever is being displayed by default - emphasis?) on the 518. Hence I have to use the hard-panel buttons on the front of the 562V or 565 to turn up and down the volume, which kind of misses the point of having a Pronto :-)

Is there some subtlety in the order of comms chaining, or a config setting on the 518 I need to tweak?

Regards,

Mark

Hi, Have you set the system for which unit is controler?
Do you have a Comms lead connected properly?

I had to Reset my 565 518 combo when i had some remote issues.
I have both on auto, I think you hold the Clear button it sorts its self, or you can manualy set one as control and one as not control.

Have you all the latest Firmware? (518 1.22) I think.

Re read set up manual.

I hope this helps, they do sound great though.
Cheers Chris smile

Hi Mark

My guess is the system Controller in the downstairs system is the 518 and not the 565V. As the 518's would appear to be set for resolution enhancement, rather than as a digital pre-amp, this would explain why the parmater values change rahter than Volume.

Switch the system off and press "Clear" and the various components will identify their status as Controller or Non-Controller.

My system Controller setting seems to work OK with all units set to Auto - the Left 5K taking the Controller role. It may well be that manually setting up the required Controller and Non-Controller parameter on each of your units will remove the problem.

Mr Meridian is the Comms guru however and he may well have another solution!

Regards

Mark

Chris/Mark,

Sure enough - I had all the controllers on "Auto". Setting the 562V to "Master" and the others to "Not Master" means that everything is working tickety-boo.

Thanks for your help!

Oh, and for the record, you can never have too many Marks.
