could you confirm the correct precision settings for:

DVD - 24bit
CD (and presumably squeezebox playing wavs) - 16bit
Freeview?

how does input precision compare to output resolution on the DACs in, say, my 561?

thx

Chris

John Kotches can chime in here, but whilst some DVDs can be more than 16 bit (from a previous JK answer), most are authored at 16 bit. The input precision on M processors should be set for the input word length, so that the appropriate dither can be applied to increase the word length to optimal spec for the number crunching in that particular processor. I'd have thought that setting DVD input to 16 bit is probably the most practical bet.

Input resolution and output resolution are unrelated. The original DSP5000s had a preferred input word length of 22 bit, but the output DAC resolution was 18 bit.

Cheers

Hi Chris,
Its good to see alot of Chris's here. smile

The Input from a Pure Dab Radio is 16 bit.

I Asked them as it is not in the manual.

I dont know about Freeview but i would try 16 Bit, it makes sense.

That is what I set my 518 to.

Cheers, Chris:)

George, can you point me towards previous precision discussions? I've tried searching for 'precision' and 'word length' over all years on the forum and found nothing to help. I'm sure this question has been asked to death alread!
