Which would be the best unit for a 2 channel theater system; running 6000's and a d2500 - only. Have both "G" units and in quandry. Dont care about surround nor FM/Tuner - Just DVD transport quality.

Thanks to Everyone for there response on Better Meridian Cables. Stu

If you have no processor then I believe you'll need the G91 for the digital integration of your sub. Unless there is another method I'm not aware of that doesn't require a Meridian processor.

You could get away with only a 596 or 598, as the D2500 can daisy chain with the 6000s, but it's going to be a pretty inflexible system and you will lose a lot of cinema LFE impact by running PCM instead of proper decoding in the processor. Much better to go with either the G91 as VirusKiller suggests, or the 598DP and 568.2mm combination. I have used the G98 with my 6000s (haven't heard the G91, but assuming it's very similar) but prefer the 500 series units for RBCD sound quality. Two boxes vs one box....

Stu. Thought I'd better add that, apparently, the G91 doesn't upsample in surround mode. Not sure if surround mode includes running two speakers with a sub. Worth checking if it's important to you.

Sorry Stu

Just reread your thread title. The comments above about the 598 and 596 also apply to the G98...you could use it without a processor, but honestly, I do think it will be markedly inferior to using a processor in tandem with the transport. If I were you I'd call M direct to check VirusKiller's point about upsampling with a 2.1 set up.

Cheers

Hi there,

Just to confirm VK's post in that you do need to run the G91 in surround mode if you want to connect a sub which means you will loose the upsampling.

There appears to be mixed views on the affects of upsampling but imho I think it makes a huge difference and would not want to be without it.
