I have the above equipment. Is this the right order to maximize the sound quality? I will use the digital out on the 565 feeding 3 psc of BSS366T for the cinema setup with a VCA after the filters.
Which is the proper setup of the 518 for the "right" solution?
Other sources will be a LP12 via MM module in the 562V and a HTPC, a Tascam digital recorder, a Sat reciever, a Pioneer HDD Recorder, a Slim3 and a 504 tuner.
thanks in advance.

I think you have the normal order - see page 11 of 518 manual http://www.Meridian-audio.com/handbooks/518user.pdf

Type would be 1.

You may alternatively be able to go from 598 direct to one of the other 518 inputs (i.e. 598 to 518, AND 562v to 518, AND 518 to 565)- I'm not sure what advantage bypassing the 562 gives as the 562v is a good product - perhaps other members have tried it! (This also has the disadvantage that the 598 output is not available at the 562v's analogue and digital outputs for recording/zone2 etc.)

There is no point in connecting the 598 directly to the 565 as the 565 has no hi-res(MHR 3 coax) input and going through the 518 will improve the digital signal. smile

There are lots of useful threads on this forum about
  • passing DTS thru 518
  • Firmware versions

Hi, I use a 518 to expand the inputs on my 565.
The 562 will give you analog Inputs as well, converting them to digital prior to the 518.
(I Think)

I dont have any analog inputs now except for the Freeview TV and I will upgrade this soon.

Dab and CD dig outputs are 16 bit, they can be upsampled to 24 bit in the 518 for the 565 if you have the latest Firmware.

The 598 will only be any good as a DVD video and CD player as the 565 and 518 will not be any good for DVD-A.

Ensure you have all the latest firmware installed.
You can check this by pressing the Display Button whilst in Standby.

Also spend alot of time with the setup manuals make sure you get it right, it is well worth it.
Beg borrow or steal a sound level meter.

Then sit back and enjoy as all the future format wars are fought out.

Enjoy, Chris:)

GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Thank you.
I have no intention buying DVD-A records or SACD records for sound improvment. I play today quite a few SACD records as stereo PCM just for the music. I just want to listen to stereo music and watching home theatre. I will not buy a new processor before nextgen when the standards for HD has settled. Meantime I run 24/48 directly out to digital BSS filters.

Hi Harryup

You should wire your primary digital sources(ie favourite 3 sources + 562v) directly to the 518, and the analogue sources to the 562v. Bypassing the 562v and going directly to the 518 for digital will give you a noticeable increase in sound quality.

Cheers

George
