Hi all,

I am about to become the proud new father or my first Meridian kit (G68D and DSP5200's) and I am stuck on whether to go silver or black? The speakers will all be black piano laquer finish and you won't see the equipment (hidden in a rack).

Just curious what other people have bought and maybe what is better for resale, in case I ever make my way up to the 800's. I know is all down to personal opinion, but I'm 50/50.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Cheers,

Chris

My equipment is visible, and I prefer black. I find that silver catches your eye too much, whereas black just fades into the background and is not distracting.

Regards

Mark

You sound like a man who would hire an interior designer to tell him where to put the cushions on his sofas.
That being the case, I am telling you to go for black. I will leave the fee for this service to your best judgement. Though, if that too proves problematic, I can (again for a small fee) be of further assistance.

Black without question - the silver can look a little toytown, especially the 800 series - reminded me of Duplo!

Good luck with the new gear!

Thanks to all. You have confirmed my initial thoughts and black it is. I just thought silver might be the new black for Meridian and didn't want to get something that I couldn't sell later.

All good.

dBrowne, as for the cushions... funny enough I have never used an interior designer. But thanks for the offer and the cheque is in the mail wink

I am building a house and designing the home theatre myself and building it myself. I have tried custom installers and they all want to charge an arm and a leg for acoustic 'buzz words'. So I am gathering info off forums such as this and AVS.

Cheers,

Chris

Chris, have you given any thought to other colors? It all started for me with the addition of a simple yellow "smiley face" a former girlfriend applied to my 565. It looked good! What can I say. That was years ago and now, with my G series gear, I've advanced to fully decorating my Meridian equipment. Heck, it deserves the best. My seamstress just completed custom miniature red curtains that operate by remote
....but seriously...go for black, Bruce

Strip it all down and have a paint shop apply some great 70's colours to it - I'm thinking a magenta Metalflake with some Vreeble high-lights.

Now if only tellies tended to be black these days. And if silver seems to be today's trend for hifi, you can bet that by the time you come to sell second hand that black will be back in vogue.

Chris,

I just received a silver G68 ADV on Monday. My first preference was black, but saving $4000 and settling for silver was just too sweet to pass up. BTW, it sounds spectacular and I've only spent about 3 hours with the set up, so I have a long way to go. Congrats!

Black is so boringly yesterday - comes with red suspenders and a cell phone the size of a brick - to complement your black 911. You don't have to be a an 80's drone when it comes to hi-fi. Look at what Apple are doing.

Perhaps Meridian will issue the new i861 in white. Notice that the new iPod Nano and the new iPod with video comes in black too.

I must be the odd man out. I prefer the look of well done silver to black.

Now if we're talking chintzy silver, ala cheap 70's gear that's one thing, but very well done silver in a nice matte finish is another.

Some of the newer silver finishes are smashing and I like them quite a bit.
