I've got my mains set to large, center and rears set to small, and my new sub hooked to the sub output. Have had to setup through the front panel for the time being as no PC handy, and have a few questions:
- cranked it up and the center channel woofers bottomed out a bit in Trifield (crossover set to 80hz) -- this has never happened before, and with the crossover in place shouldn't the woofers be rolling of at 80hz?
- set the sub for 'all the bass' -- what is the difference between this and 'LFE only', if you set the sub to work for both music and movies? Or in other words, what is LFE for music that isn't a 5.1 mix? The manual is pretty cryptic about much of this.
- any recs. on setting the sub using an spl meter? I find it tough to get a reading w/my RS analog meter.
- any tips on using the sine/sens/sub tools?
- other advice as I belatedly enter the world of subs? (lived in NYC apartments for the last 15 years which aren't sub friendly)
thanks all.

No, that's the neutral/heavy choice. I'm talking about the all the bass/LFE only choice.

If you set a sub to LFE only, it will only play the LFE (.1) channel of a multichannel music/movie. Where no LFE channel is present (2 channel music or 2.0 movie), the sub will not be used. In either case, bass from the surrounds and centre should be redirected to the mains.

Yeah, that's what I thought about the LFE choice. Thanks.

I have a similar problem/question as well. I would like my sub to play when I'm using just 2 chan. What setting should be used? Also, when listening to 2 chan. which setting should I be listen, direct or stereo or music?

afullerton wrote Also, when listening to 2 chan. which setting should I be listen, direct or stereo or music? "Direct" gives stereo without the sub woofer. "Stereo" provides stereo with the sub woofer. For what it's worth, I use stereo a lot as the sub woofer adds weight and presence even to small scale concertos. With heavier material it's outstanding.
