Yamaha 750SE => M 861 - bit of a jump.......

Before Meridian I had an LP12 and a load of cr@p!

in 1983-4, we got 101, 103D, 104, DMS Briks

following on from that........

200, 203, 263, M2, M3, M20, 562V/518/565Z3, M1500, DSP500HC & more 101B & 104s

and in between a complete Linn triamp PMS Brik system!

So the Linn is the two channel, the Meridian kit provides the home theatre and dining room and I've a few spare bits waiting around for a home.

This is the evolution of My system starting 20 years ago to present:

First system:
NAD CD player, Tanberg TCD440A Tape deck
Audio analyse pe-amp and power C33 made in France
Celestion SL600 speakers

Second System:
Nad CD player, Tanberg TCD 440A tape deck
Quad pre-amp and 606 power amp
Rogers LS3/5A speakers
Active Sub-woofer (forget the brand)

Third system:
EAD CD transport/Theta transport
Krell DA converter,
Krell pre-amp/ Musical Design tube preamp
Krell power-amp
Celestion SL700SE speakers
Muse sub-woofer
All wiring with transparent cables
Transparent ultra power conditioner

Current system:
Meridian 598D
Meridian 568.2 upgraded to 568.2mm
DSP5000 speakers latest version.
Transparent power isolator.
Center and surround will be added in the future

The Meridian is very musical and warm sounding, they are so much better than all my other system.The resolution of DSP speakers is superb.
The active system is the way to go. They are fast and very dynamic.Most importantly for me,The Meridian reproduces pace and rythem of music that I have not yet found from other system in the same class.I also do not have to second guest whether the cabling that I used is a good match for m Meridian system. They are better than many system that cost a lot more than them

Early-Mid 1990s: Yamaha DPL receiver with Infinity Kappa speakers

Mid 1990s: B&K DD processor + B&K amp with Infinity Kappa speakers

Mid-late 1990s: Lexicon DC2 with the B&K amp, then the speakers changed to Aerials and the amp changed to Proceed. Then the processor changed to the MC-1.

1999- Became seduced by the 861 and swapped the MC-1 for that.

2003- upgraded the 861 added the 800 and Meridian digital speakers.

my only desire now is to stay current with the Meridian software.

i still use my Pioneer LD player and Sony DAT player (well, where "use" means "once a year" or thereabouts!).

First system was a Sony str-765 receiver and Sony CDP at age 16.

In college I upgraded to B&W speakers and Sony ES.

Now running DSP5500's, DSP5000, 561, 500, 518, and m33 rears. I absolutely love the Meridian system. You will not be disappointed.

My first was an Arcam & B&W sytem:

Arcam Alpha 9 CD
Arcam Alpha 10 Amp
Arcam Alpha 10P Power Amp
B&W CDM1SE Speakers

I have since replaced the Alpha 9 CD and Alpha 10 integrated with a G91 and apart from the initial glitches am over the moon with the sound improvement although some of my lesser quality recordings sound awful now as the M player is so much more revealing - Doh!

I have saved to upgrade the rest of my kit but am having a nightmare drawing up a shortlist as there are so many options out there and new technologies on the horizon - I don't know how anyone comes to a decision....

I had a Marantz CD52 and a pair of Wharfdale Active Diamond bookshelf speakers. The player cost me �80 at Richer Sounds and the speakers were a hand-me-down from my brother.

I had this �80 system for 15 years and then decided, after much research to get a proper system.

I love the Meridian stuff - in particular the DSP speakers. Such a clean and unfettered sound.

The 596 player is decent, although I had to have the drive replaced and the 561 is also a good controller.

I think Meridian could have made the systems somewhat more user friendly and integrated - they should have used the "Apple" philosophy, but seem to have inherited the "MSDOS" style.

Very happy overall.

Having said all of that, my neighbour has an Arcam DVD player, Meridian power amp and the top of the line Castle speaker. This also sounds awsome for CD playback......
