I'm thinking of plugging my DSPs into a power controlled that is controlled by triggers.

I've done one so far and it all works fine.

I just think it will extend the life of the electronics and safer if thunderstorms roll in which can happen just about any time spring, fall or summer.

I have to hit the remote twice to power on the system and that's about it, I probably could program a macro to do it.

Yeah, yeah, Meridian says it's fine. But they also said 568 and 598's were ok to fry an egg on. To the point that they destroy the internal drive or start getting flaky.

I never switch mine off , mine never get excessively hot and I believe electronic stuff works better when it thermally stabilises which can take some time from switch on. My valve headphone amp takes a day or so to "sing" from switch on. http://www.rodneycanon.fotopic.net/c209311.html Just about ALL my failures in electronics happen at switch on or off. I do however use power conditioners for the electrical supply to my speakers and other components and use aftermarket power cables (the power cables thing is probably a little anal , I rolled my own however at low cost and didnt spend vast fortunes on the store bought aftermarkets)

Mine are plugged into surge protection/voltage regulator boxes. I normally keep them on, but will turn them off if they won't be used for several days in a row. I started using the on/off switch more sparingly after the master lost its programming a couple of times. Now it's all working just fine.

Mine are used everyday as they provide the sound for TV viewing. However, if I go away for more than say a weekend, then I switch off.

That's more of an environmental view than anything else.

Slightly OT, but, perhaps interesting to note is that according to the display on my PS300 unit, my 598 and G68 draw 100w of power whilst in standby and 140w whilst playing a CD. I was surprised that it was so much whilst in std-by.

I never turn them off- they are in standby when not in use. We set up the electrical system with an industrial surge protector/ and isolation transformer to isolate the system electrically. Its withstood several electrical company power outages. One thing I will do if the outage lasts long enough and I am around, I will flip the circuit brakers to the equipment to off so when the power first resumes the equipment is at least protected from the first spike. I honestly dont know if this makes a bit of difference because when I flip the braker its got to be almost the same thing. But I feel better this way. We've had a few of these overnight outages. I worry that they will get worse with time...

Best regards,
Jerry

Nick, I guess the G68 is the hungry one, probably several power circuits that need some running time from switch on to performing their best are intentionally left on while in standby. At least that'd be my guess ...

I would guess it takes a good few watts to make the relays go click-click-clickerty-click when not inuse wink

Ian,

The PS300 makes the clicks really quite 3-D when you focus all your attention on them wink

No I never turn my DSP's off. I did however have a problem last week. I returned from a holiday in Tunisia and found that my front right speaker had turned itself on. Upon further investigation it had turned itself into a right master. It wouldn't respond to anything. I reconfigued it and all is fine. Very strange !!!! Perhaps I should switch everything off when I go away.

I never turn mine off either, as it is in use every day.
Yet, when I did a re-calibration last week, after a furniture swap around, there was no tone from the DSP5000C.
Strange as it worked with each source playing through it.

I had to re-type the speaker(6), everything is now back to normal again.

Any thoughts ?
