I have been using the J for about 4 months now and am finally getting around to calibrating it and had some questions. Equipment: Panasonic RP91 SDI -> 68J -> Bryston 9BST -> B&W 804S/HTM3S/602S3/Velodyne DD12 Initial setup: I used mconfig to setup all speakers as small, all bass to the sub, crossovers at 80hz. With the default display of 65 on the J, the SPL meter reads 67(+/-). The DD12 was auto-eq'd. The sound has been great so far. I am now about to calibrate and define filters using mconfig and had a few questions. - Do I HAVE to go thru' the calibration routine before using MRC. The speakers seem within a db of each other right now - The manual for the MRC shows a screenshot where the volume goes up to 87 - I am (probably needlessly) worried my speakers might bust - Is it possible to use the velo mic with a xlr - rca adapter instead of the radio shack SPL meter Thanks a lot for any hints. I'd make sure that you are calibrated correctly first. The MRC procedure does set the volume to 87 and it's loud. In fact MConfig advises that "you may want to leave the room".
Calibrated correctly, you shouldn't have anything to worry about with your kit.
