Just installed firmware update 1.3 on my G68AXV, and a message comes on after what appears to be a successful upload -- 'bad code combination'

No sound now thru my '68 and very sluggish source switching. Help! Anyone?

I don't know for sure what the fix is. My first instinct would be to try and re-type the machine.

Hi rblnr,
I had a similiar problem. I believe this message appears because all six files need updating. During the update process there is a 'bad code combination' between the files that are updated and the older files that still need updating. Until the update is complete this message appears after each file update.
Upon completion as ricktu says you should re-type. Hopefully it should be OK.

Retype, then upgrade the firmware again.

That should cure the problem.

Yup, this was the problem. I was only uploading one of the six files the first few times around. Caught on when I re-downloaded, started the program again and saw the six files.

On another topic, would like to use USB, but of the multiple files included w/the ftdi, which is the installer? I'm a Mac guy -- PC probs. I have to luck into to solve and I can't figure this one out.

Also, I'm unable to connect w/the G to store new settings, has anyone had this problem w/the new firmware?

Are you using the .mfp file? Select that and it should automagically go after all the firmware files.

Cheers,

I think you should skip USB, what that FTDI does is install a fake driver so your OS and programs believes it is a serial port - but it caused some minor problems in my system...

You should only perform the software updates with the real serial connection; not the USB/FTDI fake.

Hi Nick,

What about the USB to Serial converter is that ok to use, and why don't Meridian advise not to make the upgrades useing USB or do they?

Hi John,

I don't know if I read it somewhere also, but, when I was having various chats with M about the FTDI (which I still can't get to work) StEdd did mention that USB can do the setup OK, but I'd still need serial for firmware updates.

Since then I actually started using a USB/serial connector (20 from Maplins). This seems to work fine on the Mr Helpful hyperlink and also with Mconfig. I haven't tried firmware yet with it but I'm guessing that it will be OK as it's going into the G68 via it's serial port not the USB.

Cheers

Nick

Thanks for that Nick.. [Linked Image from softronix.com]

The reason i was asking is that i did all my firmware updates and config on the G68 useing the USB port except the G91 which i had to use the serial converter, but it all seems ok and the updates were loaded, but i am a little bit worried now that i should not have done it useing the USB.
Fingers Crossed and i hope it is ok!!

I use a USB/Serial converter. I was hoping straight USB might be more reliable, but sounds like it isn't.

Got the firmware, but now can't load new settings, and don't know why. It always seems like a very hit and miss prop.

But today's a new day and my G and laptops might be in better moods.

BTW, what is meant by 'retype' the machine?
