I have installed my 808v6 and inserted the C5 cable from the 861v8 into the 808v6 with another C5 cable onwards to my 504 tuner.

When I press the display button neither the 808v6 or the 504 display their firmware no. Every other piece of kit in my system displays firmware correctly.

Before I inserted the 808v6 the 504 displayed firmware without a problem.

In normal operations both 808v6 and 504 respond promptly and both work fine.

Any ideas for what my problem is?

Thanks in advance for all ideas and potential solutions.

Steve

Fn + Display brings up V3.5 on tuner, which is correct but still nothing on the 808v6.

However Fn + Display gives strange display readings on the speakers!

Still one down one to go!

Thanks
Colin

Have you pressed CLEAR on the remote first, so the system works out which is the controller?

I'm assuming pressing the display button locally on the 808.6 gives the expected result...

Cheers,

Steve

Yes I have pressed the CLEAR button and that appeared to work okay.

Good point, I just tried the 808v6 display button and that did indeed show 4.14.

I have swapped out the SpeakerLink cable between the 808v6 and 861v8 but this has not made any difference.

Strangely the 504 is no longer responding to the FN + Display button combination!

I do wonder if I should adjust the config to reflect the fact that the C5 comms cables are no longer routed through the 808v6.

I have noticed that when I press the Clear button my 504 shows Con instead of NonCon which may be why I am getting a display problem.

The 504 manual only gives the general automatic press the clear button instructions to achieve the Noncon status.

It goes on to say that if you want to change the automatic setup configuration refer to the Meridian 500 Series User Guide.

Does anyone have this document? I have searched here and wider without success?

Hi Colin I’ve had a couple of 504 who insisted they were controller and I manually made them NCon in the set up. You’re right this isn’t in the 504 manual but I think I pressed the display key as I powered the unit on and then cycled through the few choices - this is the way you get to that part of the config for a 501 for instance so kind of makes sense? If not display key then try others held as you power the unit up with the mains switch on the back. 501 manual is the reference for which keys change options etc….

Hope that works for you.

Richard

Your information was spot on, Turn off and then turn back on holding down the Display button I got down to the option to change it to Ncon, turned off and on again, all good.

Having pressed the clear button again on the remote (the 504 showed Ncon) and then the remote display button still no joy with the version being displayed.

I'm guessing that the lead is a bit flaky as it just a little too short for the link and once plugged in the cable is under strain.

I have ordered a longer C5 cable which I hope will resolve the issue.

Below is some further information received direct from Meridian, re-printed here with their permission, as it may be useful for other HHs.

When 500 series was first introduced, the use of the "Function" key provided access features or functions on products that were not the Controller product - the 504 or a CD player, for example. However, when we started making surround-sound products and DVD players, we had to adapt our comms system to deal with the menus carried on the disc that had to be navigated just to play a film.

One change we made was that we put Surround Controllers above DSP speakers in the "hierarchy" of which product becomes Controller when using the Clear key. In effect, we added a new "layer" of functionality which meant that some IR control options became unavailable even when using the Function key.

Not that it is a solution for you, but we have memories of having to temporarily disconnect comms leads to access display options on some product combinations.
