Not sure if this is the correct section but happy for it to be moved. I have not been able to find a device, until now, that allowed me to send a 5.1 signal to my 861 since Panasonic pulled Netflix support on my Blu-ray player a few years ago. Consequently I started to use a Roku 4K Stick but as it did not have 5.1 support I took the Opt Out signal from my TV which only gave me TV Logic etc. However, I have just invested £79 with World of Satellite for a MECOOL MEon1 Media Streamer and have been blown away by both the picture quality and Dolby Atmos & DTS 5.1 sound from the Opt Out port. I don’t think an optical out can feed 5.1 into a Meridian 861

It certainly could when I was using a G68J. But that was from either a Bluray player or satellite tv box.

The MEon1 works a bit like a satellite box I guess and does output 5.1 on HDMI & SPDIF

it can in normal dolby surround mode. better to use a HD621 or UHD722 of course.

The optical out on a first generation Amazon Fire could not do DD 5.1 - it was a hardware limitation (per Amazon FWIW).
A recently purchased Manhatten Aero (a Freely STB which also supports Netflix, etc.) can not do DD 5.1 via HDMI but it will do Dolby Atmos via HDMI (again a hardware limitation per Manhatten tech support)
Assuming the Roku 4k does not have those issues, an HD621 is a perfect integrated solution, especially at the low, low s/h prices these days. If you want 4k then an HDMI splitter plus HD621 may be the solution.
Does the OP's suggested MECOOL MEon1 Media Streamer really deliver Dolby Atmos via optical?

Yes, the Dolby Digital Logo shows on the 861.
However for me though it's all about the sound.
Perfectly happy with 1080p on a 55" plasma.
