Don't panic. This is currently just a thought but it could very rapidly turn into a plan. I am highly likely to get a DSP6000C soon and that would essentially fully complete my main room setup. (Until I win the lottery and go with 8kSE or XE's.)
But this might also involve ending up with an extra DSP6000 with nothing to do... so....
Can the bass cabinet be used in an LFE configuration?

There are far wiser HH'ers than I on this forum but I would speculate, that as the 6KC has no dynamic integrity in the same way that an SL speaker may, that by simply typing the speaker using the internal menu or configuring the system by computer and indicating that you have a DSW would simply allow the LFE effects to be output on the 6KC.

However, as the bass response on a DSW is far lower than a main speaker, the effects may not be so pronounced requiring a higher level of volume on the ersatz sub.

But, what do I know?

I can directly attest to my D2500 NOT having nearly as much low frequency extension as the 6k's. It is why I took it out of my system. The 6k's simply go lower and are tighter. I have a theoretical setup in the Configuration program that I think will work once I have all the bits assembled.

Lemme run this by the group. If there are any obvious snags anyone sees, please point them out.

Okay so I will shortly have a 6000C midrange and treble head. No bass unit. My plan is to get another LR6000 set (24/96 of course) and turn one into the C configuration. AFAIK there should be no hiccups there. Just tell the 861 it has a 6kC and type the speaker to C.... does that sound plausible? Then lie to the 861 telling it it has a d2500 in the LFE slot but actually connect the remaining 6k cabinet to that output.

That last part is where I'm unsure if it'll work. 3/4 on my OE12 card is center/sub. Will the 6k interpret its input as LFE and just... act like an LFE? I may need to somehow drop the D2500 comms/DSP board into the 6k stack to make this work.

Well - either way I'm ending up with a 6kC and that'll be more than good enough.

I’ve seen some DSP6k bass modules missing the heads for sale, but people seem to be grossly overcharging.

I have not played with the output set to sub to see if that turns a normal DSP into a sub, but could be interesting... Have duplicated positions ~ Typed 2x Left and right Fronts (only one master tho), and it worked!

Did this with my 5200's and 3300's with the 3300's stacked on top. if your Running full range you may be able to do just that, type the bass modules to the speakers. Without a sub, your mains should do the LFE/Low end?

Step 1 of about 7 is complete. This is (naturally) the first one of these I've seen in person. Incredibly low serial.

You'll need to set it as a Right Slave and then don't set any of the sub options in its config (they are high pass filters not low pass filters on any of the DSPs except the explicit subs), connect it to the centre / sub out, do slave comms to it and off you go!

The speaker has no idea about what it's actually connected to, so if it gets LFE on channel 2 of its input it will play it just as if it was channel 2 of left/right.

How well it works is another matter, of course... Your only adjustment will be in the processor config / calibration.

Best regards,
Julian

Well that answers the remaining questions! Love this forum. Now to find a reasonable set so I can create this... I'm not sure what to call it. The center head unit is, as you might expect, gorgeous. And weird to look at.

Thats interesting Adam. I found that it was source dependent. D2500 not worth putting listening to music but for movies, the D2500 shakes your body in certain "explosive" movie scenes. I don't get that immersive sensation at all with just the DSP6000's.
