Hi everyone,

I'm having strange issues with playing 3D using the HD621.
Using my PS3 phat console, it works just great all the time, but not with a PS3 slim console.

Using the same 3D Blu-ray movie/cable and software version on both consoles.

I'm thinking of buying a PS3 super slim, and test with that one.
I prefer not using the phat PS3, since that uses a lot of power/noise.

My guess that there is perhaps a handshake issue with the HDMI chipset on the slim, which is causing problems here?
When also testing with a vertex 2 in between, the problem stays the same.
I thought both consoles are using HDMI 1.3, but perhaps the phat is using an older HDMI standard on the hardware, I'm not sure...

When I connect the PS3 slim, straight into the beamer it works just great, but not with the HD621 in between.
the HD621 is running on the latest fw version.

Does anyone here, have a fix for this problem?

Regards,
Floris

After more testing with other 3D players, I'm having kind of similar issue's.

Running 3D MVC using an HP intel mini PC, with custom Kodi version which can send out 3D Framepacked signal to my beamer just fine, but not to the HD621.

The same goes for a Raspberry Pi 3B+ running an older version of LibreElec 9.2.8, which does work with 3D Framepacked MVC content, it works fine with the beamer, but not with the HD621.
Both devices don't give any audio, only video.

Using the Vertex 2 in between, I don't get any video and or audio, so it makes it worse..

Testing the HP mini PC and Raspberry Pi straight into the beamer, it works perfect, so I'm pretty sure the problem is somewhere within the HD621 chain.

Strange, so far the only device that works well with 3D for me is an old PlayStation 3 Phat model from 2007.

Anyone got tips for me, on how to get 3D working properly with the HD621 ?

Hi Floris,

Perhaps the HDMI versions are higher then the HD621 can handle? Or the resolution is to high? The minimum for 3d is HDMI 1.4 for max 1080p

Hi Rick7,

The resolution is not to high, it's all the same 1080p 3D MVC frame packed signal, 3D also does not go further than 1080p in MVC frame packed mode.

The PS3’s all have the same HDMI spec, but there is a difference in between them, perhaps the HDMI controller/chipset or something..

Other devices can also get 3D going with MVC Frame packed content, but no audio at all, I don't understand why..

Perhaps a special Vertex 2 setting is needed, I don't know.
Anyone?

I am a little confused. You say

"Using the same 3D Blu-ray movie/cable and software version on both consoles"

So is this a physical disc or a file and player software?

If you are trying to play an actual disc, I would personally suggest getting a baseline. Borrow/Buy a cheap 3D Bluray player and make sure this works via your HD621. When I had an Oppo 83, I used 3D discs quite a lot without issue. Of course, newer displays no longer support 3D so I no longer have the option.

If you are using a ripped file, you could be in a world of pain depending on how it was ripped. And how are the files or discs being played by a raspberry pi?

Unless you have a known starting point that SHOULD work, its hard to know where its going wrong. PS3 was discontinued in 2016 according to google so its hard to know how well 3D was ever supported back then.

@Greg,

I'm using rip I created of Avatar, which is in clean native ISO format, this is my test file/movie.
I keep this as a base line for testing..

I prefer to play my 3D BD ISO's over the network.

Anyhow, with the same cable/software, I meant that both Playstation 3 Phat and Slim model, are running the same Playstation 3 software and same HDMI cable when tested.
I hope this info makes it more clear..

Running this 3D BD ISO (Avatar) with the Playstation 3 Phat edition, everything works perfectly as expected, but not with the Playstation 3 Slim.
The Slim model does not give any 3d video nor audio, when playing this movie screen stays black.

After further testing with the Raspberry Pi 3B+ running LE 9.2.8, and the HP Mini PC Running a special Kodi version, I've got 3D video also working correctly (some kodi settings where wrong), only audio is not working at all with these players.
Internal PCM decoding is turned on in Kodi, and passtrough is turned off, for 2D movies it gives a perfect multi channel audio signal, but only not for 3D.

I'm using a projector with this setup, which is fully 3D compatible.
All the above players work correct, when connected straight into the projector, only the PS3 Phat model, works when the HD621 is in between..

OK, that does sound odd.

Not sure I have any suggestions in this scenario.

My use case with HD621 was always vanilla. Apple TV for Plex/Infuse and Oppo 203 for physical media. Never had any issues, but then I have no screens that support 3D any more! But my old OLED worked well with 3D blu rays. I have never gone down the ISO route so no experience to report.

Beyond borrowing someone else's HD621 and trying another machine or trying new HDMI cables not sure what else you can do.

Cheers
Greg

Hello Floris

Have you tried using different inputs on HD621 for the PS3?

Does your projector have an HDMI output?

If so, can you use the Vertex 2 send audio from projector to HD621?

Thanks everyone for their input.

After further testing with a new player, OSMC Vero 4K+, I've not got 3D BD ISO's playing good with this one, including decoding the audio to multi channel PCM.
So far I have been using this device with great succes, for my 3D MVC needs. (including Avatar 3D BD ISO, and more of my own rips so far)

Using Apple TV 4K 3rd gen for 2d content, and OSMC Vero 4K+ for 3D content so far.
As a bonus the Vero supports, 5V, which works with a powerbank which gives much beter performance than using the stock switch mode power supply.
I've got a multiple HD621's, on which I can test, but I don't think this would be a HD621 problem.

My beamer does not have an HDMI output.

I can highly advice an OSMC Vero4K or newer model for 3D playback so far..
I will continue to test in the future with other players, but so far I have a good alternative to my Phat PS3, for 3D playback.
