I have a DSW 1 that won’t power on. I unplugged the unit while I was away on vacation. I tried a new cable from the DSP5200se it is chained to. The fuse looks fine and I can hear the sub thump when i remove the power cord. The ever helpful Bruce Sinclair at CMB intergrations suggested its probably the comms board. Great news except the DSW 1 boards are no longer available, and even a dealer like him has been waiting to receive DSW2 boards for over a year.
Looking for suggestions. Thanks, Ian S.

Is a DSW.2 board compatible with a DSW.1?

According to Bruce it is. I would appreciate any help as it would be awful to have to resign this to the trash bin… Thanks, Ian

If I were in your shoes, I would at least place an order for a replacement DSW.2 board.
Even so, given your location, I would weigh the overall repair cost (parts and labor) against the price of buying a brand-new DSW.2 - simply to assess the cost-effectiveness of repairing your existing DSW.

Thanks for the advice. Done as you suggested. I have sent the backplate to Marc at the repair shop and received a bid on the new one from a premium partner here. You can imagine my dismay at going from a beautiful sounding setup to less than after returning home. So again thank you for taking a moment to answer my post. As usual this forum and it members are invaluable if you enjoy Meridian.

Makes me wonder what is broken on the comms board. Can it be repaired?

There is a surface mount chip that blows and takes out the adjacent circuits.

Ah, not fixable, or at least not easily.

I'm curious if the fault would pass the test in some legal jurisdiction as being a design flaw and/or manufacturing defect. I guess where I am coming from is should Meridian be replacing these boards when they fail regardless of warranty status.
My own DSW.1 was pretty much never used for years whilst waiting for the firmware upgrade and then failed during flashing less than a week out of warranty so I am understandably unamused that it has since been lying dead in the corner of the room. If I hadn't needed the firmware update or if it had come out sooner I wouldn't be left with a barely used but non-functional product that came at a considerable cost to myself.
