This may be a bit of an odd question, but does anyone know if multi-channel recordings streamed from Roon are passed natively via Speakerlink by the 218? I'm curious as to whether this works if I tell Roon to not down mix, or whether the 218 down mixes of its own accord, and it seems hard to tell on my system. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

No it does not. It's a 2 channel only end point in Roon. The other option from downmix is channel map which would only use L and R from multi channel.

Speakerlink is 2 channel only as well

I use my HD621 via HDMI from roon core as my multi channel end point.

Thanks Frank - I was looking at the 'Channel mapping only' setting in the device setup for the 218 and getting overly enthusiastic. But using the Roon Core -> HDMI -> HD621 pathway for multichannel is a clever idea ... I'll give that a whirl.

Cheers

No worries smile

Generally the HD621 works well with Roon / PC.

For the first time I recommend booting the pc with the HD621 attached and on the input assigned to PC.

On PC, it should appear in the PC display and Audio settings. I set the HD621 to 5.1 in the PC audio settings and in the sound control panel in the properties for HD621 on the advanced tab. I set Exclusive mode enabled for both options.

In Roon the HD621 should be the second HD audio driver for Display Audio.

You will probably find that when you PC has a Graphics update you will have to reassigned the HD621 in Roon as endpoint.

I use Roon directly connected to HD621/UHD722 via HDMI out from ROCK, and it works with multichannel if you tell HD621/UHD722 to handle 6 or 8 channels.
