Dear everybody,

I bought a 598 (Drive: DVS-LDR DRL-200 :FZ83) a few years ago and all the time was having troubles to recognise commands from a remote control - I tired MSR4 and MSR+. I decided to reinstall the firmware even though it ment switching back from 1.98.2 to 1.02 which is integrated in the Configuration Program (it took me several attempts until I figured that before initiating uploding dspe0010.mfu right after both of the other .mfu files you must not wait longer than about 1 seconds.

A few days ago I noticed that there was dirt on the inside of the glas coveringe the remote sensor but I cannot check whether this had been the problem because my 598 does not function any more:
Since installing the 1.02 firmware the display says allways "No CPPM key" and whem I try to play a DVD it says "Region code" and does not start - it was on region code 2 before. I tried an Audio DVD but it did not play as well though without any error message - but this disc is 25 years old and I never played it before.

Can anybody tell me what "No CPPM key" means and provide me with firmware 1.89.2 and do I need something else?

Any support would very much appriciated.

Hi Mario,

The CPPM key is installed at the factory and is the key required to decode DVDs.

Probably, by going backward in firmware, this may have messed up the CPPM. I'm not entirely sure that it will be recoverable...

Steve is right.. if my memory is correct the DRL-200 came out after the 589, so most likey a firmware update to work with the DRL200. Have not had that error, but getting replacement drives for my G series stuff, recall the Firmware notes for 720/710/drl200 drive choices.

So, it seems like the support for DRL200 drives, was added within this firmware version.

I have got firmware 1.89.2 (thanks a lot) and uploading went smothly - I assume that the additional .mfp-file made it unnecessary for the user to act inbetween each upload of the different .mfq-files.

Unfortunately the firmware did not resolve all of my problems: the "no CPPM key" warning has gone and I can play my single Audio-DVDs but I cannot play Video-DVDs, the "region code" error still exists.
Dear Steve, is it possible that your firmware file 1.98.2 is for another region code than region code 2?

So far I am happy that at least I can play CDs and that the annoying "no CPPM key" warning has gone, which was flashing even in stand by. But maybe someone has an idea how to get Video-DVDs running, too.

Hi Mario,

If you look in the Wiki (top of the page), go to Tips and Tricks, Meridian DVD Players Tips and Tricks, you will find all the information you need to resolve the Region issue.

There is also the 96 Menu, which can be useful!

My 598 is running again - thanks for all your help. Even the remote control works fine now but this is probably due to cleaning the sensor.

I could not figure out how the Hyper Terminal works but with photos about connecting with Putty (see https://www.meridianunplugged.com/u...bb=showflat&Number=245008#Post245008) I have managed.
