Hello
Has anyone else experienced the F80 developing distortion on one channel? Mine has started to sound rough on the right channel, which is particularly noticeable on speech. I have had the drivers out and can’t see any damage, so I am starting to suspect it is the electronics. Happens with all sources, including the CD, so I have definitely tracked it down to the unit (I primarily use it via the optical in, so I tried the CD as well and it’s still there). I was hoping to swap drivers, to see if that is the issue, but they are soldered, so it is more involved than I hoped. I can desolder, but before I go down that route, I thought I would ask here. Not noticeable with a test tone or tone sweep (via YouTube), but definitely there on some sustained vocal notes and podcasts (the compression seems to make it more noticeable)

Hi Oli,
I would definitely swap over the drivers, as I have seen them go bad over time.
Check for rattles and make sure the ports are clear.

Headphone output sounds good, so will get the soldering iron out tomorrow narrow it further.

I finally got around to swapping the drivers. Sure enough, one of them has gone bad, so it isn’t the board. Given they appear to be the same driver as in the DSP3200, I am going to see if Meridian are willing to send me a couple.

Managed to source new drivers and successfully repair, so thought I would leave these breadcrumbs for future searchers. The drivers are Tang Band W3-1401SC, which Multicare sourced for me. They were £20.03 + VAT each, plus postage (£15). They look a lot like Tang Band W3-532SQ but the F80 cones are aluminium, whereas the others are some kind of plastic.
Riding on that wave, I purchased an M80 for one of my nieces, which has a bit of a hum, but will post about that separately.
