Hello
I have dug out 50 DVD-A discs from the spare room and decided to use them.
I have connected up my Oppo BDP93 via HDMI to the Meridian HD621, but no matter what settings I try I get stereo only, even when I have visually selected surround from the menu on screen.
Any ideas?

Hi Nick,
l have an Oppo 105d HD621 and G65. l have 2 Oppo inputs on G65 to accommodate different sources including Bluray. l will have a”play” tomorrow to confirm what connection is doing what to be sure and get back to you.

Have you checked HD621 still setup for 5.1 output?
Main system:G65, 218, HD621 2 x DSP5200SE, 1 x DSP5200HCSE, 2 x DSP5200SL, Power Sound Audio S1512, DSP Anti-Mode 2.0 Dual core, NuPrime H16AES, 518, Dune HD Homatics Box R 4K Plus running CoreElec 21.3, Oppo 103D and SqueezeTouch. Atmos, MQA and Trifield!

The HD621 is outputting 5.1 from my 4k player and the fire stick.

Check that the DVD-A you are playing are 5.1 or you have selected the 5.1 option on the menu. Not all were 5.1.
Is the Oppo set to down-convert 5.1 to 2.0 ?
PS FWIW you can rip the DVD-A into 5.1 FLAC files. Via a suitable player into the HD621 these will deliver the same hi-res experience. When I had a 7.0 DSP system it was quite spectacular. Had Roon supported MC back then I may never have changed systems.

Hi Nick,
I had this same problem a while back after buying an Oppo 203.
You can’t change the settings to DVD-audio playback when you have a disk in the player…
You will not get to the same setup menu…
You need to do the following (did work for me):
1. Remove the DVD Audio disk from the player
2. In the menu on the player, you see on the screen, go to Setup
3. Go to Audio Output Setup
4. Change DVD-Audio Mode from DVD-Video to DVD-Audio (you enter menus with the round “Enter” button on your remote
Next time you enter a DVD-audio disk it will recognise multichannel DVD-Audio

Hi
l have had a “quick play” and although the picture from Oppo is fed via the HD621 the sound is not. All five speakers are sounding and G65 shows Discrete.It is sometime since l set up all but it did include connecting the Oppo to the G65 via the multi channel input.l can only assume that this was the only way and also to include SACD.Hope this “helps” for now but l will do a bit more investigating.

l have now tried my second Oppo connection and can confirm that it is working correctly for 5 channels including DVD Audio and is connected to HD621 via speakerlink cable 👍

Was it working ok in the past?
Have you checked your MConfig file and ensured that Multi-Channel Music (or any Music setting) isn't only outputting the front 2 channels - or something like that - I can't remember the exact settings?

Hi,
Did you set up a new source to the 861 for the Oppo or just unplug one of the working ones and substitute it?
Is the 'Stereo' you are getting really Stereo or just the front 2 channels of the surround mix (Rolski)?
Does the 861 display show 'discrete' (or some other multi-channel setup) when you select the source you have designated and push 'play'?
