I just picked up a pair of DSP8000SE and found they are still on the old 2.63 firmware. Was wondering if anyone has the 3.08 firmware to spare?

Thanks in advance for the help
Calen

My 8kUSE's firmware is 3.16 not 3.08 but that may be because of the upgrade?

Now I am having a very difficult time updating the speakers. I am using the Cisco blue DB9 to ethernet suggested by Carl and the usual Keyspan USB adapter to a Windows 10 computer. I was able to get to the "Erasing" part but it always errors after that. The speaker is currently bricked but I am able to get it into "loading" mode, it just always errors out before loading the firmware. I have tried changing the buad rate all over the place and that has not changed anything. I get what feels like every error under the sun from bad sector to incorrect identification and COM4 timeout.

I have seen others with this exact problem on the forum, but the solution was always "I just kept doing it until it worked". Any ideas of what I could change to get a better outcome? I have tried different USB cales. Two different Keyspans have been tried and two different computers.

These are the original 40th anniversary 8000SE's so I wonder if there is a problem with 3.16 firmware specifically.

If anyone has a lower firmware version than 3.16, I would like to give that a try.

In case anyone runs into this problem in the future...

I tried multiple different USB cables, different Keyspan adapters, different computers and different USB to RS232 adapters; all with no luck.

I bought a cheap old computer with an RS232 9-pin port on the back and it worked first try, no errors.

Some people seem to get the USB adapters to work without much trouble. If you find you are not one of them, ditch the USB. Go straight to a computer with a 9 pin port and never look back.

That was my experience anyway.

Thanks to Floris and Bruce for the in-depth help that got me to the right solution.

There are some, if not many USB adapters that don't have the correct FTDI chips to work properly with Meridian. That is why I have always said that a Panasonic Toughbook or a Dell 600m laptop will save you hours of frustration, well worth their 2 to 3 hundred dollar price of admission. It doesn't really matter if they are running Windows XP or Windows 11. They just work, every time. Security or internet connectivity doesn't matter, bring the firmware in with a USB flash drive. If you are going to own Meridian equipment, it is one of the smallest investments you will make that will bring you almost as much enjoyment as the audio gear. JMO.
