Will check what happens with setting the preset to AES 16 digital output.

This had no effect.

In my system in the 271 settings, the controller is set to Auto, as are the speakers.

Have set my system like this, but still no luck.

The 271 still does not control the volume of the speakers or can turn them on or off.
Changing input does show on the speakers display.

With my Center as Master I can use the ir remote to turn on the Center, but the left and right speakers don't turn on.
The Center does not come on on 87 as set in the 271, but the standart 65.

You can turn your speakers on and off from the Meridian Control App. Using handheld ir remotes will result in not being able to keep the Trinnov and Meridian volume settings correct.

Hi Bruce,

I can not turn the speakers on and off from the Meridian Control App.
That's the problem.

Is there a service menu in the dsp7200 where things might be wrong?

This is what ChatGPT wrote:

DSP7200 Service Menu – Structure & Options
Role (Channel Assignment)
Options: Left / Right / Centre / Surround / Sub
Defines which channel the loudspeaker plays in a system.
Comms Mode
Options: SL (SpeakerLink) / DIN / Off
Select SL when connected via SpeakerLink (RJ45).
DIN is for legacy 5-pin DIN comms connections.
Volume Mode
Options: System / Fixed
System → loudspeaker follows system volume commands.
Fixed → loudspeaker runs at fixed gain, ignores system volume.
Auto On/Standby
Options: Auto / Manual
Auto → speaker powers on/off with Comms from a controller (e.g., 271).
Manual → speaker only responds to front panel or IR commands.
Phase
Options: Normal / Invert
Normally set to Normal.
Invert may be used for system alignment.
HF/MF Trim
Small adjustments for High- and Mid-frequency balance.
For room/system tuning.
Display Brightness
Options: High / Medium / Low / Off
Controls front panel display brightness.
Firmware/Info
Shows firmware version and internal details.
Useful for support, not normally adjusted.

With all the Meridian equipment in standby have you pointed the msr at the master speaker and pressed the clear button to set comms?

Hi OP,

I have always found this to be a tricky process. Seems like every time we do this it can be fiddly.

I have always had the best luck with L/R as slave on 1/2 and C as master on 3/4 like yourself and Bruce described. 271 has Slave SL as top row and master as bottom row, is the C plugged into bottom row?

The other thing that definitely helps is power cycling the 271 and speakers. When making changes to speakerlink cabling or settings, it's important to power cycle all equipment to get it back in sync.

Also Bruce, we have spoken to M a few times Re volume control, they have always advised us to use volume control via 271, believe this is to avoid clipping, regardless whether system is trinnov or storm. Whenever we do a control system, this is obviously IP. In this case however, if OP wants to use Meridian remote, are you saying he can trigger into trinnov, thats pretty neat.

Also OP, changing trinnov to digital aes16 will have no effect if you are not using the rj45 cabling to do this (as you are using the db25).

Otherwise, you could try changing master (C) to 1/2 and move L/R to 3/4. Sometimes it can be as simple as that. But each time make sure you power cycle, I have always found this to help.

You brought up something I thought about but didn't put in my list. The RJ45 for the center master speaker needs to be in the bottom (master) port of the 3/4 stack. Kind of counter intuitive from a ethernet switch way of thinking. Both ports carry the same audio signal. Speaker configuration tells the speaker which of the two channels each speaker responds to.

It is connected as you discribe.

Tried this, but no luck. Even took the power cables out for 30 sec.

The Trinnov has a aes16 digital db25 output, no rj45.

Very frustrating.

Do you have another SpeakerLink controller to test with? If you do, see if it controls your speakers correctly.
Something is wrong in your system. I have set this same basic system up dozens of times and it always works without any problems.

Hi Bruce,

I only have the 271.
Do I need to set the comms type in the speakers when configuring source?
Or is this only for a direct connection of a source.
I can choose 1C for CD, 2C for FM Tuner, 3C for DVD player, 4C for Meridian Media Server.

If I turn on the master C with the IR remote the other speakers stay on standby.

I have now set all speakers input DVD to comms 3, but no change.

This eats me up and about to throw the towel in the ring...
