Hi, knowledgeable experts on here.
What is the baud rate for the interface using the RS232, I thought it was 9600 +1 stop, zero parity?
and what is the baud rate if I use the USB B socket to A interface to the laptop?

I can't seem to get either working although I'm trying to use a different USB to 9 pin Serial lead (I lost the old one somewhere).
I guess I'm missing something simple, but can't think what.

G68 RS232 Interface.

The RS232 interface for the G68 can be operated from any terminal which operates at 9600 baud with 1 start bit, 1 stop bit and 0 parity. Commands take the form of two ASCII characters and in some cases, followed by a signed argument (‘nn’ below).

All commands are echoed by the G68. A carriage return character will execute the command and backspace is also implemented.

Once a command is executed, the G68 will return 20 characters.

I’d suggest using the USB connection, which needs the same settings, to avoid compatibility issues with an external USB to serial converter.

I’ve tried with a Proilfic chipset adapter but cannot get it to connect to com3 on the Dell Windows XP laptop.

I've also tried a FTDI chipset RS232 to USB, but again cannot connect to com 3 or any other com port using the Meridian config sw.

Tried the USB B to A cable, but again Windows XP doesn't see any connection this may be a limitation of XP I not sure, as its so long since I've used XP for anything.

Any suggestion of how to connect up would be useful.

Get a refurbished Panasonic CF-53 Toughbook with a true serial port and end the madness.

I use a Startech FTDI null model (recommended on the forum).

Only issues connecting were from a bad power supply (G91 and G61RSL) and not seating PCIE cards correctly after replacing backplane caps. Past that zero problems with a Windows 8/10/11 laptop over serial and USB.

Serial never had to adjust buad rate settings in Mconfig or device manager. USB normally recognizes instantly unless something was wrong with the unit. the inability to connect was always a symptom of another issue or had the USB/serial half plugged in.

I have never heard of Windows XE, is that the correct name or are you talking about Windows 10 embedded?

okay, there is a really good chance XP is not supported by mconfig or the USB to Serial cable is not. I would stop using a 24 year old OS to even attempt this. Seems to me a bit of a waste of time and we can only offer suggestions on solving this.

Windows XP that brings back memories .

I use Windows 10 on a Dell Optilex 5050 and the USB connection works with the G68. The Dell also has a serial port which also connects to the G68 and other Meridian. However, the Panasonic solution suggested by Bruce is probably even better.

I didnt think the Meridain config program worked on windows 10, as the advice ive seen here only mention earlier versoins of WinOS and XP as being the stable one.
I will keep my eyes-open for a panasonic lappy.

I use the mconfig program over a USB to serial cable on Windows 11 for all my Meridian equipment without any issue.

I run Windows 10 Pro on my Panasonic CF-53 Toughbook and the RS-232 port works on everything from Meridian.
