I've been running Sooloos Core on my QNAP TS-453A. It's over 15 years old and had a couple of scares recently with power outages. It took a while to fix the network and brought it back to life. I'd like to set up a backup system for Sooloos in case the QNAP motherboard fried. I have Roon; it supports Tidal and has a lot of useful features, but still find Sooloos much more responsive, cleaner and can run without internet connection. I'm also emotionally attached to my Sooloos library since I spent many hours building it and grooming the metadata database.

Any suggestions on current QNAP models that is comparable to the TS-453A and how to install the old QTS version on the new device to run Meridian Sooloos?

You have a C15 in your signature. Could you not just turn the core on in that?

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

The C15 is on its last leg unfortunately. I've already lost 2 C15's some time ago, not sure how long this one will last.

Have you done a native export of your Sooloos library. At the very least you would want a copy of the raw data in case something else fails?

Sorry if it’s a basic question but your signature is quite confusing. You have a Roon Nucleus yet you still run Sooloos?

I personally switched away from Sooloos a few years ago. The lack of support especially software updates made it unworkable for me.

Each to their own though, Sooloos is still great.

Cheers
Greg

Also, a recent update to Roon relaxed the constant internet connection requirement. I’m sure it still pings the mothership occasionally.

We had an internet outage this week at home and I forgot to actually test the “theory” unfortunately.

Have had a Roon lifetime for 10 years and tried to switch many times from Sooloos, but always ended up going back. Much prefer the Sooloos interface and how it handles a large library. I've tried Roon on a large touchscreen and haven't found a way to streamline it so it works as quickly and intuitively as Sooloos.

That said, will have to pull the plug on Sooloos when it eventually fails - just wish there was a Roon version that worked as straight forward as the Sooloos on a large touchscreen!

Hear hear! I could not agree with Cybrid more. I have one foot in the Roon world and another firmly planted - for a long time to come, I hope - in the Sooloos world. If only we could convince the Roon team to replicate/retrofit their original Sooloos offering for those of us who still relish its advantages. If I could access Tidal from Sooloos I would probably use Roon for Arc remote access and not much else, unless Sooloos could cover that base, too. Perchance to dream…

My Firewalla says there is traffic between my Nucleus and Roon about 3-5 times per minute. Not playing any music even. It’s connecting to push connector v2. Not sure what that is.

Curious how much it was before the update that reduced this…
