Please help me figure out the HD621 controller.
For some reason, it doesn't want to accept a 5.1 LPCM signal from the media player. More specifically, it works sometimes and doesn't work other times.
I have an HDfury Vertex2 in front of the HD621, and I can see the HDMI signal. For some reason, the controller's EDID is detected as a two-channel signal. Through HDfury, I can force 5.1, but in this case, the sound is very muffled, and it feels like the surround channels are only reaching the front as two channels.
I understand that the description of the problem is somewhat confusing, but it is as it is. At one point, everything was working well, but then the sound disappeared. Sometimes, reconfiguring 861+HD621 helps to restore 5.1, but then it disappears again.
I don't understand why this happens.
Dune 8K max (HDMI)-> HDfury Vertex2 (HDMI)-> HD621(3x coax)-> 861v4 -> speakers

I've also had some problems with my Fury 2 in the beginning. I''ve done a complete factory reset of my Fury 2, and connected it to HDMI input 1 on the HD621, after that all my problems where gone. If you want to use MHR between the Fury 2 and HD621, instead of PCM make sure you use the TX1 HDMI output, instead of the HDMI audio out port. Perhaps there is a way to get the HDMI audio out port to get MHR working on that one, but still have not figured that out. If you want I can share you an config export of my Vertex 2, which you can import on yours for testing. Is your firmware also fully up-to date on your HD621 and Vertex 2 ? ![[Linked Image]](https://www.meridianunplugged.com/ubbthreads/gallery/16/full/4167.png) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.meridianunplugged.com/ubbthreads/gallery/16/full/4169.png)

There's a lot about this on the AVforums Vertex2 official thread.
The Vertex2 has custom code for detecting the HD621 (which is apparently not very compliant with EDID standards) but it only works when the HD621 is plugged into TX1. As in the physical act of plugging it into TX1. You can simulate this with the "force replug" button in the UI.
This leaves you with the problem that if you leave the EDID as dynamically generated, the HD621 part may or may not be included in the blended EDID after a source change.
You need to plug your display into TX0, your HD621 into TX1, select automix EDID video part = TX0, audio part = TX1 and then save it to custom 10. After that you can plug the HD621 into TXAUDIO and you then set your just saved custom 10 as a fixed custom EDID for all the inputs you use. That will make at least the EDID part of the equation completely stable. Mine's been running for years without a glitch.
The Vertex has no clue about MHR, nor is it an EDID capability to be flagged. The only audio you can get into an HD621 is PCM and the lossy mutichannel bitstreams. MHR applies between the HD621 and the surround controller if you use 96k output on the HD621.

I often experience glitches with my setup - especially when changing formats - so it's always nice to see this discussion reappear periodically. Why do you need to move the HD621 connection from TX1 to TXAUDIO? Does it behave differently? I connected mine to TX1 and left it there.

It just allows the Vertex to send a black screen at your selected resolution to the HD621 rather than dealing with the incoming video. TXAUDIO is locked at 1.4, I believe whereas TX1 can go up to 2.0, so there may or may not be HDMI or HDCP or some other fla that I’d rather not worry about an incompatibility with…. I did run it briefly on TX1, and I don’t recall any specific issues, but it’s a long time ago that I switched to TXAUDIO. Having a “template” setup also avoids at least a little of the sarcasm from the support people if you need to talk to them…
