I am wondering if anybody can recommend an inexpensive (less than $500) DVD player that will work with my 562.V2 and Panasonic Viera TV set.

My wife bought some DVD's she wants to play (and listen to) and I need a player that will work with this setup... I realize DVD's are kind of like VCR players and going out of existence, but would really appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you.

My G98 stopped working about 5 years ago and I never sent it in for repair because (a) I thought it would be expensive, (b) I rarely used it

DVD players are basically worthless nowadays. You can grab older higher end units for peanuts. The problem mighty be the age and potential issues with lasers. I would probably look for a decent Bluray player instead, like for example the Sony x800m2. It will read both Blurays and DVDs but will offer more flexibility in terms of scaling, apps and audio formats.

The ability to buy a cheaper DVD/Bluray player is appealing, such as Sony. My concern, however, is that I am relatively clueless when it comes to hooking up gear to Meridian equipment, and I'm not sure how to get the audio and video signals from the player into the Meridian receiver. Would it just be a pair of RCA cables for the audio and then connect an HDMI cable between the player and the TV set?

Coax or optical into the receiver for surround sound processing.
Update the config on the processor, of course.
HDMI between player and TV.

Thanks for all your help ... I just ordered the Sony BDP-S1700 with a three foot coax cable for the audio. Hopefully the installation will be simple.
I was tempted by the Meridian player but could not justify the $570 US for how much it will be used.

You guys are very helpful.
