Ncpl: Meridian products sure move slooooowwwwlllllllyyyyyy on Audiogon, even when offered at dirt cheap prices. Now let`s see, if a product is very good, and it is offered at a cheap price, most reasonable people will jump on it, unless of course, if they have done their due diligence, and found out that previous owners have been frustrated by customer support (which explains the huge discount). Therefore, they take the position that it is not worth the trouble, until it is realllllyyyy cheap. And that is what has been happening—Potential buyers hold out, sellers get desperate and offer the items for auction at low to no reserve. Meridian must really be proud of that.

Check out the selling pattern/prices of comparable products from the likes of Theta, Lexicon, or even the good old Conrad Johnson.

If they are that good then why not buy these brands ? Why stay with Meridian ?

I give out as much as anybody around here about various things that have infuriated me but I've yet to hear better sound out of anything else so I get it off my chest and get on with it.

Pure_Audio, I'm curious. It's obvious that after sales service and residual values are important to you. If both factors prove to be crap (as you clearly feel they are) why are you considering Meridian as a brand? Why get vexed about it when there's a world of other manufacturers out there who are all vying for your business?

FWIW, I can't recommend Meridian's after sales support highly enough...I've had consistently good experience with them, for repairs when necessary, and ongoing support regarding advice or parts. Edd Stoneham in Technical Support managed to source a long discontinued remote for me, for a 13 year old product, having remembered it from a conversation four months previously. It's the UK guys like Edd who are a very important part of the brand offering for me...and there are many of us who have similar experiences with the rest of the UK support team. As has been noted above, most of the gripes seem to be about the US support guys.

On the broader point of delivery times, it's very annoying to have to wait, but the kit is obviously selling faster than they can make it. I don't think that it can all be going to brand new customers who will buy once, then wash their hands of the brand...

Cheers

Indeed, why don't Meridian just pre-scent their products with the smell of lemon? wink

Yea Nick, you must be specially treated. My units took 6 weeks to be returned earlier in the year wink

On a more serious nature, there does seem to be a huge disparity between the quality of technical support available here in the UK and that available in the US. But then, the converse is true when dealing with US companies such as Microsoft - its almost as if the UK market and British English language, post codes, PAL, 50Hz video etc etc does not exist and we have to conform to someone elses view of things.

So for once, its nice to be on the right side of the pond for a change.

Pure_audio: You have a really interesting perspective on all this.

I had no idea that people only sold their Meridian gear when they'd become so upset with aftersales care and only sold it at really low prices 'cos everyone who'd heard the expression "due diligence" before would know not to touch with a long stick.

If stuff never sells on Audiogon, I'll be sure not to use in the future.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

PS - ...apparantly not enough Meridian kit has been breaking down (in the UK) recently (is this possible...the kit is crap isn't it ??), so, the boys on the fix-it desk haven't got much to do just now. I think that may be why I got my unit back so quick....as well as being on the take !!

I e-mailed Meridian a question concerning the firmware on my DSP5000C last night before retiring for the night and a response from Dave Hall was waiting for me when I woke up and checked my e-mail this morning. I don't know of any other company with such great customer service!

Well... what an interesting read. I'm going to put my 2 cents worth in, because I can smile

I haven't got any Meridian kit yet, but I want it and no I'm not working for Meridian, but sometimes I wish I was (I wonder if they have a staff discount?)

Pure_Audio... why bother coming onto a Meridian forum to bag Meridian? Surely there are other forums out there that take your fancy? With everything in life you will find good and bad experiences, that's what keeps life interesting. If you don't like the kit, don't buy it. Life is too short to whinge.

I recently bought an SW5500 from the US and shipped to Australia (still in transit). I found out too late it is 110v instead of 240v. I rang the UK and missed Des, but emailed him and he had a friendly positive email back to me within 24 hours (I was freaking out by this stage). Better yet, the Australian distibutor has kindly offered to replace my 110v power for a 240v power supply. It is THIS level of service that will keep me a loyal Meridian owner for the rest of my life.

As a matter of interest, I work in the IT service delivery industry and organisations in IT could learn a thing or two from Meridian about their commitment to keeping customer happy.

End of my 2 cents, hmm I might have used 5 cents by now.

Cheers,

Chris

Is it just me or does this seem like a long time to wait? Who else has ordered these speakers and how long have you had to wait?
Mine arrived within 7 days of placing the order along with a G91.

I'm not on the take (but if they want to send me some goodies, please do!) but I've had great service from Mark in Atlanta - he sent me out some mini-circuit filters when I had my 598.

Before moving to the USA the guys in Huntingdon were great too, even giving me a tour of the factory when I went to pickup my pair of 557 amps (after they were converted to 110V for my impending move across the pond).

Cheers,
David.
