Congratulations on the new purchase. Be good to see your thoughts on the music experience going back to the main topic of Trifield.
I’d be interested to understand with the MP40 in place if you are ever tempted to try Dolby Surround for 2ch music sources. I’ve limited variables on my Marantz but turning centre spread off, made a significant difference in my set up, to my ears.

Although I was not going to install my Lyngdorf MP40 until May. I couldnt resist.

So installed with Mogami XLR cables into a Primare 35.8, still only 5.1 until the work is completed in May, However I did install 3 subs. 1 as lfe, an old Proac ER1 and two as L & R subs, they are small Rel T5/x.

Speakers are Dynaudio Contour all round.

Had some trouble with eArc to and from TV, but that was me plugging the HDMI cable into the wrong port. eek

Sky TV, Netflix, Discovery plus all fabulous.

Music just amazing. I am defaulting to Auro 2D set to ‘small’ and strength 15. I will say it is as good as and/or better than my G68 in Trifield with Room correction and I haven’t run Room Perfect yet.

The details in the Lyngdorf manual are rather scant. They really need to employ a technical writer. But with a bit of web surfing it wasn’t an issue.

You need a hard wired Ethernet connection which is not an issue for me.

I have a Primare 35.2 to install once my 4 ceiling speakers are installed so I have enough channels of amplification, but I am starting to feel I have made a good choice. A pile of money of course, but so what!

I thanked my G68 for its service as Marie Kondo recommends. It is being retired not scrapped.

Congratulations on your recent acquisition!

It’s an exciting time when you acquire such a significant piece of new equipment.

Thank you.
The Meridian Desktop remote is still a million times better though.

I am thinking of retiring my 861 v6 and updating to an MP 40.1. I can get a decent trade in for the 861 so the MP 40 2.1 will cost me about $6k.

I have a 7.1 setup, inputs are Tivo (optical), Apple TV (optical via keydigital switch), and Wiim Ultra w/ Squeezelite (coax).

@stebbo do you think I will hear a difference or would this be a lateral upgrade?

I have read that the MP 40 and 60 are slow to come out of standby mode when tgriggered from the remote, is that still accurate?

So I pulled the trigger.

I can confirm Stebbo's comments.

The Aura 2d is pretty close to Trifield. To my ears v the 861, better instrument separation and vocals are also more easily separated from music.

Video sources (Tivo and AppleTV DD5.1) also great.

Web interface is super easy to use and the app is also nice.

Room perfect took a while to run, works well but its a black box.

Inputs super easy to setup (like the Meridian Phantom sources)

All in all a very easy drop in replacement for the 861. Sorry to see her go after 20+ years of amazing service.........

I am sorry I missed your post of the 6th. I am having my kitchen replaced and my listening room redone too, so I am in a bit of chaos at the moment.

I agree with all you say. Especially the room perfect black box thing. I used to tweak and play with MRC a bit in the past, now it’s run it and boom it’s done and you just use the MP40 and enjoy the media.
I haven’t really noticed if it’s slow to come out of standby as I trigger my Primare Amps and it’s may also turn on the TV and satellite box.
As of next week I will reconfigure it as a 5.3.4 and re run RP as my room refresh will be done and 4 ceiling speakers installed and ready to rock. I then need to look into the whole voicing thing!

It will not be as slow as a Trinnov Altitude16 (15m 30sec mark), that takes over 1 minute from initial power-up to being ready to use.

That is, such quirks are characteristics of living with modern AVP’s.

My system is disassembled at the moment, but I connected the Lyng to the power. It took 11 secs to come out of standby.

So it's a little slow to come out of standby, but somehow it seems to cache the IR commands so works perfectly every time, ie power on, input Apple TV, commands issued, takes 10 seconds to complete, but works every time.

I was playing with Aura 2D v Dolby Upmix modes, Dolby Upmix has a wider soundstage but I don't like the surround channels and lots of sub even though my fronts are full range.

The voicings are also a mystery, I couldn't hear much difference.

I use Auro 2D for music. Next week when I re assemble with the ceiling speakers I will try Auro 3D.
Didn’t like any of the other up mixers but ‘none’ so a straight stereo signal is very very good.

In terms of Voicings we get is it 6 or 8? But you can create your own. You can also download those that have created by others. I found this page Lyngdorf Processor Voicing Thread.

I may download some in the future and try them out.
