There’s plenty of discussion throughout the forum threads on the merits of adding isolation feet to DSP’s. Is there any merit to adding such isolation feet to the DSP centre channel (or is it a non-issue)?

Unlike main DSP’s I appreciate that a centre DSP doesn’t have any floor contact - but is it a good idea to minimise any undesirable effects on the supporting cabinet (or, are the supplied rubber feet sufficient)?

Hi,

I’ve got an IsoAcoustics Aperta 300 between my 5200SEHC and the top of my Spectral cabinet.
The Spectral cabinet is a single (25cm high) tier and is pretty heavy in itself. The stand lifts the speaker by another 10cm.

My feeling was that it had improved the speaker isolation compared to the previous Foculpod (type) pads. I’ve also got a JBL 9.1* Atmos soundbar, so the stand also acts to lift the centre clear of the soundbar.

(*just for a bit of fun)
Brian

Mine is resting on a 5mm foam pad.
I have no idea if it helps but it doesn't hurt.

On entering the DSP5200SEHC spcifications into their ‘product selection wizard’, IsoAcoustics identified using 3 or 4 of their OREA Indigo isolation feet.

Hi,

I use OREAs (Graphite, I think) under my G65.

The Aperta stands allow you to add some tilt* and I went with the wider 300 rather than the 200, as you're spreading the load a bit more widely.

The DSP5200SEHC weight is around 23kg (..ish) rather than the weight quoted in the specification, so it works well with the Aperta stand.

(*I appreciate you can 'raise' the centre speaker electronically)

I have had good experiences with post-it buddies. Its similar to blue tac and adheres the speaker to the cabinet. So it also ads some safety.

I used squash balls cut in half when I had a 7200 centre. I wanted to protect both furniture and speaker cabinets. Worked very well and the balls were indeed squashed. I couldn’t make the speaker move even when pushed hard

I’ve used both ice hockey pucks and the little ridged rubber(ish) blocks that air conditioning units are rested on as anti-vibration dampers. Compared to the HiFi premium charged for sorbathane bases etc, these are insanely cheap and discreet (at least if you choose the puck carefully!).

I’ve found that the simple felt furniture pads used under 5Ks onto a wooden floor are surprisingly decent. These are the ones you buy to stop furniture legs scratching wooden or tiled floors.

Hi ST
I used Sorbathane hemispheres to mount various centre speakers below my TV on a glass shelf. The mounts were available in different sizes, which allowed three point mounting, say one small at the rear and two larger at the front of the speaker to achieve the optimum centre sound projection/elevation. They worked for me.

I've searched until I'm blue in the face... Does anyone recall who made the recommended stand for the DSP7200HC ?

Sound Anchor used to make a stand that would accommodate a 5500hc or 7200hc.
