Hi, thanks for taking the time to read my post.
Previous system # 568.2 processor, DSP 5000’s & DSP 5000C
NEW system # 568.2 processor, DSP 5500’s, DSP 5500C, DSP 33’s rears, M1500 subwoofer
I recently upgraded to a 5.1 surround system. Had it all plugged in & seem to be working fine. A few days later I started to watch a movie, after some time I noticed the rear speakers didn't seem to be making any sound. I read in the 568.2 manual that you can do a speaker test by putting the processor into Standby & holding the OFF button on the front of the panel of the machine. So I did this & it went into Calibration mode, so I went through the menu left & right listening for the speakers. The Left, Right & Centre sounded fine but nothing was coming out of the rears. So I went through the menu Right, Right, Right etc until it came back around & decided not to change any of the settings & that I’ll look into this later. So I clicked the OFF button again as it says in the manual. So then decided to continue watching the movie but when I turned the processor back on & clicked GAME source (which was working with the Optical Cable before) now is not giving me any audio at all.
I’ve gone back into the Calibration test mode & the speakers are working, I’ve changed the Optical cable for a new one & still nothing. I’ve tried plugging the optical cable into another tv & still nothing.
I’ve been into the TYPE menu by holding UP on the front panel when in Standby & I’m currently on Type 5.0 DDD (as the subwoofer isn’t currently connected)
I’ve tried reading the 568.2 manual front to back & I can’t figure out what I’ve possibly done or how to fix it. There doesn’t seem to be a reason why I can’t get audio through the Optical Cable, it should be simple plug & play. I’ve tried all the different source options on the remote controller, I’ve tried resetting the 568.2 power & the speakers.
So I have a fantastic new system that I can’t currently use. The music sounded amazing for those first couple days.
If there is anyone out here who has any idea or information I can try I would be most appreciated thank you.
I imagine it might take a while for a reply so I’ll keep researching..
Thanks again for reading.

To save a TON of trouble - connect to the 568 through the Legacy program and check everything from there. **edited to add** The Meridian processors really are a dark art even with software. With just a remote it is near impossible to see/understand what the thing is doing. The manual does explain which input NAMES use which input physically - and the legacy software is the best way to get a handle on that entire cluster...foxtrot.

As Adam says (above), you should get to know the legacy configuration program which runs on a Windows PC and connects via serial cable to the 568.2. You should also check the surround “type” to make sure that digital output is going to all of your speakers.

Also confirm that the surround speakers are 96/24 capable. Sending HS=Y incorrectly will make them silent.

Aren't all DSP33's 24/96? But, that is still a good point.

Might be a problem with the slave comms cables from the front to the rears - not sure sure how you've connected them, but I've assumed you're not using a 511 type patch box. Also, check your source is dolby digital 5.1 , not dolby digital plus, which the 568 can't decode. pressing the display button on the 568 will cycle through some status displays which will let you know what the 568 trying to decode. maybe swap the digital out cables on the 568 for the front with the rears and run the speaker test again, that should diagnose a faulty digital audiio cable. Regards, GMS

Hi Adam, & everyone else..
Thanks for the replies.
I’ve had my old DSP5000’s for over 10yrs now & I’ve never had to use the Legacy Program before. But now with the new DSP5500’s I’ll have to figure this out. We only really use the iPad these days so I’ve dug out my old laptop from long term storage & bought a serial to USB cable.
How or where do I download the Legacy Program from..? can someone simply send me a link for it or does it need to come on a CD..? As you can tell I don’t use computers much at all.
Thanks everyone for your advice, I hope to get this fixed soon as will have family coming for Christmas & would like to use my new setup.
