Hi,
Watching some movies the other night, and I can't determine the audible differences between Cinema mode and Discrete.
Is there something noticable? Should I set it up differently to hear something unique with that mode?

I believe that the only difference is that in Discrete mode, the bass is set at -10db but shows up as 0db to comply with some Dolby or THX standard; Cinema is the same but bass shows up as it should.
The question for me is, for a 7.1 system, if you leave it at Discrete/Cinema are you losing out on something. I have mine set for PLIIxMov. I no longer have my 598DP so I am connected to my DVD with a single coaxial connection. My 568.2MM automatically switches from PLIIxMov to DTS if I chose that output on my DVD menu; it automatically switches to EX when the soundtrack is so encoded.
Clueless as usual.

No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Collateral was horrible - couldn't believe how stupid it was. I kept watching with anticipation that something "good" was going to happen. Completely worthless. Forgotten was ok - but a little weird. I have 2 kids, and not planning on forgetting them anytime soon ![[Linked Image from softronix.com]](http://www.softronix.com/ubb/smile.gif) Sounded sweet

The Incredibles was incredible.
568.2MM autoshifted to DD EX so I didn't have to futz with the equipment.

I also watched The Incredibles. I enjoyed it, overall its not the best Pixar offering (Toy Story 1&2 remain their gold standard) but its very enjoyable and I think the one thing that distinguishes Pixar movies is they have their heart int eh right place.
I think Cinema also adds a mild re-eq for movie soundtracks (eg- take out some of the extra brightness). I could be wrong, but this is my observation. I use Cinema for movies & discrete for music.
Best regards, Jerry
