Hello all,

I got the legacy software downloaded, installed and the software connects perfectly. Really nice to see that they updated it at least enough to work on modern laptops. Very happy about that.

At this point though, I get absolutely no sound from any of my digital outputs. This machine has a very simple configuration. I basically have an IE16 which I never used and then an OE20 which used to go to my Meridian 861v2 with an MHR configuration between the two of them.

So, I went in and did a fetch of the current system, and it was basically a factory reset (which is fine for me anyway) and I had no backups. Again, no big deal because it doesn't link to the 861v2 anymore. All I want is a simple Coax digital cable output to bitstream everything into my processor/DAC.

I removed every single source on the config except CD1 and DVD. CD1 will go to my Marantz Cinema 40 processor and DVD will go to my McIntosh MX135. This gives me the ability to use either one for various reasons that I have chosen for my usage. I then have a single Coax digital cable going from the first digital output on the OE20 to my McIntosh MX135 and the second Coax digital output to my Marantz.

I have a power cable, serial COM cable and these 2 digital coax cables, and that is all that's connected on the 800v2. 4 total cables.

1. I have configured the "Main outputs" section in the config software for 96k output with and without MHR. No sound on either unit. They see the signal but cannot process it for some reason. They just sit there saying "digital signal".

2. I have removed the checkboxes for the 96k and tried that with and without MHR. No sounds from either unit.

3. I have changed the MHR setting to use always, only when necessary and never. No sounds from either unit.

4. I have tried putting 1 checkbox in 96k and other one unchecked. All with and without MHR. no sound on either unit.

I am at a complete loss here on how to get sound out of this unit and decoded in my external DAC's/Processors. I've never tried in 20 years of owning it because it's always been mated with an 861.

Can this thing even output just a Redbook CD 44.1k album or a simple DVD from years ago and send it all bitstream to my McIntosh and Marantz processors? Any chance you have ideas for me?

Thanks!

MHR can only be used between 2 Meridian products. Did you save the new settings during changing 96k MHR etc. in the 800? Mconfig doesn't work in real-time.

Hi,

I'm not familiar with the 800 player, but shouldn't you have the CD1 & DVD "inputs" set up to use the internal drive.

I am so bad at posting huge posts, and yet never giving all the necessary details lol. Gawd I suck hehe.

Each time I checked or unchecked a box I would save and then store it on the 800 and then test. So uncheck 1 box for 96k, save, store, test. No sound. Turn off MHR, save, store, test. No sound. I definitely know that MHR only works with Meridian gear but since nothing was working at all, I decided to try every possible combination.

Interestingly, I found a post from myself from 19 years ago about this same thing. Trying to get it to work in my Theta Casablanca (which I still use today). The problem is matching those settings do not work today. 800 is same firmware version so there's no changes there.

I am going to post screenshots of the configuration software and the relevant screens to show my current settings and see if anyone notices a mistake I made.

Thanks!

M

That's a very relevant thought actually. The answer is yes. I believe I do have that setup but I will be including that in my screenshots.
It does specifically say in one of the screens that the source is "internal to the unit".

Thanks,
M

Thanks to the help of my friend Steve, the issue has been resolved. The remaining setting I was missing was that on the inside of the source (CD, DVD, etc.) it shows you all your cards. I had my IE16 selected instead of DVD. Selected the DVD internal card, changed the setting from Last Known to DVD, uploaded the settings and viola, instant sound!

Thanks all for the assistance on this long past 2 months getting this finally working again!
