To finish up this thread.
First I ran into a dead power supply. Ordered 3 new power supplies, none of them worked. I took everything apart and cleaned everything up. Found a green wire that was no soldered to anything. Traced that out, soldered it to where it should have gone. Reinstalled the power supply (new one) and the unit powered up.
Tried to play a CD/DVD and it only read the DVD but it would skip and do random things. Assume drive is also bad. Ordered 2 new drives.
Drives arrived and I replaced the drive and put everything back together and it worked. It's now reading both CD/DVDs perfectly. Skipping, fast forwarding, rewinding, stopping, starting etc.
After all that work, the machine seems to be fully functional physically, but yay for me, I get no audio from any of the digital outputs. Going to start a new thread for that.
Thanks to all that helped with this thread. Was a long way coming and a lot of work and time.

Hi all, new to this thread. I have a Meridian 800 (maybe v1?)that has worked flawlessly for 5 years Moved it yesterday to clean the rack and reinstalled and it doesn’t power up. The power cord is good, tested that but unit will not light or make a sound.
Should I assume it’s a power supply? I don’t really k ow how to test that, limited skills
I’ve been reading as much as I could and it seems a common problem . Does anyone know where to buy a new one?

The power supply is easy to replace. You will need to determine which version is installed in your unit, UMEC or the newer XP. The newer XP will not fit in the same cage as the UMEC. Switching to the XP requires a new cage and rearranging the wires in the plug for the Caps board. While in there, checking the capacitors is worth doing.

Ok not sure how to do all that but I will take off the cover and look at the card number. After that, where would I be able to purchase it?
Thank you for your response!

Looks like I need to add to this thread. My 800 has failed, seems likely to be the power supply. I already replaced it once four years ago, (XP switched type, ECM60UT31) so a bit disappointing if it has failed already. I am planning to order another replacement once the festivities are over, assuming that is the fault, but is that the best choice, or is there any alternative available that might be more reliable?

If you haven't previously, check for bulging or out of spec capacitors in the unit including all of the cards. These often lead to early power supply failure. There is always the linear power supply upgrade offered by Meridian.

Thanks, yes I did have a quick look at the caps, and while they look ok it might be sensible to dig a little deeper.
Is the PSU upgrade actually still available? How much are they and how involved is the swap?

Make sure that you check the capacitors on all the cards - it just takes one to add a load to the PSU for it to prematurely fail.
The LPSU kit (last time I purchased one) was over £800 - not sure if it is viable for an 800v2...
Drop me a PM if there you need any further information.
Cheers,
Steve

I did some more testing, when disconnected the PSU itself seemed to work, output the 5v/12v, and when the power board with the 3 LEDs was connected it seemed to work ok, with all LEDs lit up. However, once the power board was connected back to the backplane it all went dead, so I guess it was unable to maintain the current. I also took the opportunity to pull out all the cards for a visual inspection, and everything looked normal, no obviously damaged capacitors, although I guess it's possible for some to have failed without being visually evident. Probably needs a deeper dive.
Anyway, I have now ordered and fitted a new replacement XP power unit, ECM60UT31 and fitted that, and now it's all powered up just fine.
