Hi
I am struggling to set up DSP5200 + DSW with a 218 and play from an optical input. I am not getting any sound even though the 218 has optical light on. What's the setting I need on the 218 and what's the typing I need for the speakers to make this work?

Hi
Do you get any sounds from devices that are plugged into the 218? Please can you describe your setup in more detail.
This will make it easier to make suggestions.
Some more questions:
Have you tried with a different optical cable?
Have you tried with a different optical enabled device ?
If you're using a TV as the device, have you changed the sound settings to use optical if required?

If the device connected to the 218's optical input is outputting a multichannel signal, the 218 won't know what to do with the signal. The 218 can only process 2 channel stereo PCM.

It's a TV optical output and it's I have set it to output the signal.

Bingo  I changed it to PCM, and it is all working. I have to use Type 6 for the speakers.

I recently had my LG C2 OLED automatically updated and struggled with non-PCM output as well.
Just set it to output LPCM to Optical Out in the TV, AppleTV can still be set to multichannel.
DSP8000SE, DSP7200SEHC, DSP5200SE sides, DSP7200SE rears, 861v8, 210, Sim2 Ultranero 4, Stewart Cinecurve 2.35:1, XEIT CM-5E Anamorphic lens, Dune HD Duo Cinema 8K and Wireworld Platinum 48G HDMI -> UHD722 -> Shunyata Omega Ethernet. Shunyata/Furutech power-cables/filters. SR Master Fuse@861v8. Uptone Etherregen with 10MHz OCXO clock.

Bingo I changed it to PCM, and it is all working. I have to use Type 6 for the speakers. Type 6 is usually used when you have a Meridian surround controller, for stereo with a Meridian 2-channel source you would generally set Type 5.
