I suppose it depends if you are a saver or a spender. I'm definitely a spender which is why I allow my better half to make all financial decisions! But I only mentioned £1k, not £4k.

I’m amused by others’ propensity on here to spend my money for me.

I was correct to ‘tough it out’ to see if the price would drop on the DSP5200SE’s, as the seller chased after me within a few days with a further £500 price reduction. I’m confident that if I wait a little longer then they will accept a further £500 price reduction.

BUT…

In that very short time I wondered if these were indeed the right speakers to buy. I appreciate that many on here will not have heard the M6’s impressive performance prowess. These understated speakers really rock as a main pair. They deliver 150watts bass plus 100watts wide range (250 watts total). The bass output is reinforced by its downward facing bass driver (as the DSW.2).

Ignoring the superior Beryllium tweeter on the DSP5200SE, they produce 225 watts total by comparison. Plus, I wrongly assumed that its speaker configuration comprised separate bass, midrange and high range, rather than the reality of only 2 x bass and 1 x high range at 3 x 75 watts.

Again, ignoring the superior Beryllium tweeter performance, I’m having reservations on whether they would substantively outperform my M6’s in practise and that I would subsequently regret my purchase.

That 225 watts output is clearly dwarfed by the DSP7200SE’s 600 watts output via their separate bass, midrange and high range (unlike the DSP5200SE’s) at 4 x 150 watts.

By comparison, although the DSP7200SE’s are 7” taller, they’re only 2” wider and a smidgen over 2.5” deeper than DSP5200SE’s. Curses on those that have rented space in my head by their suggestion of looking at DSP7200SE’s.

Maybe that should be the future focus of my interest - or does the DSP5200SE remain the better match for my 5 x 4 metre lounge?

If you value "scale" don't forget the DSP5500/2 , a positive bargain in the 2nd user market.

I moved from the 5200SL to the 7200SE. The upgrade wasn’t about power. And my sitting room isn’t large. But the increase in scale, image depth and so on is what persuaded me. As an orchestra plays I’m just more heavily involved with the music. And that’s the only thing that counts, I think. I’ve not heard the M6.

A pair of the elusive DSP7k's at 400 watts per speaker may be perfect, especially given the astonishingly precise 3D imaging of sound. However, I am biased!

Just read your speaker upgrade consideration.

My room is about 2 metres longer than yours and concrete floor.
l used to run 5200SE’s with 2 DSW.

An opportunity came along to upgrade to the 7200SE and l did parting with the 5200’s and DSW’s.
No doubt the best upgrade l have ever done from M3, M2, 5000, 5500, 5200 & 5200SEs.

The sheer weight of sound and control is amazing. l have since added the 7200SE centre and although many benefits especially films and speech centre image the main speakers are the thing to go for, they are truly amazing and there are some out there and very considerate pricing.

What was it that first motivated you to upgrade from your DSP5200SE’s?

How long did you keep them?
What did you initially like about them?
When did your attitude towards them change?
What did you eventually find lacking about them, that prompted the upgrade?

Finally an M6 owner ! Is it possible to turn off the light on top ?

There is no mention in the manual that I can see.

Using your MSR press ‘Display’ to switch the lights on/off.

That is, if you have either an AC200 or a 218 with G12 connected.

About 6 years …

l originally had the 52’s but hearing the beryllium tweeter was, at the time, one of the biggest improvements l had heard.

I spend a lot of my time listening to classical music at home nowadays and although you will never beat the shear size and power of a live concert (I have been attending live concerts for over 50 years) nowadays l prefer the comfort choice of home listening and without the distractions of other concert goers.

I had read and listened to the 72’s and they are really a big step up from the 52’s which is easily put down to size and power. l listen mostly to Mahler and Shostakovich and when it goes busy and loud the 72’s just stand there effortlessly.The different spec to the 52’s easily explains same. Also as my wife said l would rather spend my money on new speakers than a new car!

One practical consideration I’m now looking at is comparable weight. I’m far from being a young man with the commensurate strength to move heavy loads on my own (given my MS). Sure, once they’re in situ they will be rarely moved - but occasional cleaning, decorating and removal considerations are a factor.

My M6’s weigh 21.5kg each. They’re more awkward than heavy to move around, with connectivity located beneath them rather than on their rear.

My DSW.2 is marginally heavier, at 22kg - yet, given its different proportions, I always find myself having to adequately prepare and brace myself prior to moving it.

The DSP5200SE’s, on paper, are not much heavier at 27kg - so I’m fairly confident on my current ability to move them around if and when necessary on my own.

Yet, the DSP7200SE’s weigh considerably more by comparison, at 55kg each - twice that of DSP5200SE’s and heading towards thrice that of my M6’s. I’m uncertain if I have the solo ability to move them - especially if I buy a used blemished pair that requires subsequent transporting for refurbishment.

Of those on here that own DSP7200SE’s, how do you manage to move them around on your own without the assistance of others (if at all)?

I have a sack truck, kept in the garage, with a little thought, it makes light work of shifting. May be £50 but I’ve used mine so much over the years. I bought it to move speakers.
