I’ve basically exhausted my online research and I believe the following will work as an end state (initially there won’t be a Dante box) but interested if anyone has other info

Atmos processor is an upgraded JBL Synthesis 55
This can be connected via Dante to a Sonifex Dante to 16 channel AES box (https://www.sonifex.co.uk/avn/avn-aesio8.shtml)
Which in turn could be connected to a Meridian 271 digital input using a Tascam pinned DB25 to XLR female cable (eg. https://www.designacable.com/van-damme-25-pin-d-sub-to-female-xlr-lead-tascam-analogue-standard.html)

I am aware of the JBL 55 Dante issues which I understand would be solved by setting the Sonifex as the master clock unit.

Thanks !

This aspect was discussed (amongst many other issues), here.

Be aware, even if you were successful in fully implementing the Soniflex solution you would be limited to 48kHz audio output. This is the inherent feature of AES67 - aka Dante.

I took the advice of others on the forum and ignored the supposedly ‘budget’ option of adding Soniflex to the JBL Synthesis SDP-55. While it might currently be on offer a a bargain price I believe that it is a false economy to buy it alongside Soniflex.

Thank you. The 48k limitation does not concern me.

I already have the JBL 55, having extensively researched the issues. My initial set-up will simply be analogue into a 271, 5.1.4 or 5.2.4 with DSP3200’s (centre 3300) all around except for rear height. I haven’t decided what to do for rear height speakers.

AES67 is not limited to 48k. I push 96k and 192k between Roon and my Merging Hapi using Ravenna which also incorporates the AES67 standard. So the limitation must be a Soniflex thing (it's unlikely to be Dante IMO).

How do you then account for Storm|Audio’s 48kHz AES67/Dante limitation on their whole AVP range?

On the Roon forum, one Storm|Audio owner is frustrated that Roon only plays back at 48kHz via his AVP.

Ask Storm|Audio ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: Actually, given that Roon does not stream over AES67, I wonder what audio path that user must have.

Edit 2: In my studio setup, Roon streams to a Ravenna virtual soundcard. This is limited to 48k unless a Merging network audio interface is detected on the network.

I did ask Storm|Audio: AES67/Dante is limited by design to 48kHz.

Someone isn’t being truthful. Here is a Dante product that clearly specified 96

DMI-DANTE64@96

Not that I care as I said in a home theatre context (and frankly a music context) I am quite content with 48.

Apologies for hijacking this thread, but question for @Viruskiller: do you use the Merging HAPI in a system with Meridian DSPs? If so, I'm curious about your setup.

No, it's the only analogue setup in my house; to a pair of analogue active monitors.

I wonder if they meant that AES67/Dante is limited by their product design.

It’s irrelevant when the AES67/Dante implementation on certain AVP’s is limited to 48kHz - regardless of whatever Soniflex products hang off it.
