I'm thinking about adding vinyl (no the stickers!) to my G61R/DSP5000 ht setup. Can't really see an easy route to this and wondered what others have done as unlike the 861 I can'd just 'add cards'
What might make sense?
TIA Mark

You add a turntable and a phono preamp or a turntable that includes a built in phono preamp.

Hi,
As Bruce suggests …. check out the Rega Phono Mini preamp which has an A to D converter, so you can connect directly to a digital input on the processor.

Your G61 will convert the output from whichever phono stage you decide to buy, either MM or MC as it has AD conversion on analogue inputs. I plug my phono stage into my TV input. It can be beneficial to use a passive preamp between the 2 so as not to clip the ad converters and use all of your bits. Or use a Rega one as suggested.

The G61 does not offer RIAA equalisation on the analogue inputs as far as I know. Vinyl recordings are all “tweaked” before being stamped into the vinyl to reduce bass and boost treble. This is why preamplifiers always used to have a separate “phono” input. This dedicated input would reverse the RIAA equalisation - which is what a dedicated unit like the Rega does. See RIAA Curve: The 1954 Turntable Equalization Standard That Still Matters more info.

I thought that all phono preamps included RIAA, isn’t that part of the point?

If you want to get really serious about such things, I’ve always liked the look of these. I haven’t used one, but always thought they look the business.

The 601 had DSP RIAA EQ 30 years ago...... Probably the last era when it made any sense to put a turntable in front of a digital system. My TT went in the loft the day a 565 severed the analogue chain between source and my speakers.

Interesting! I didn’t know about the 601 RIAA DSP. Meridian were so ahead of their time.
