Hi All, Meridian have just released new firmware for the 251 and 218 for those systems having issues where there is Sonos equipment in the house.
Please contact your Meridian dealer to discuss how to update.
Regards,
Rick

Anyone else having trouble updating their 218 using the latest Device Manager software? Mine detects the 218, resets it when it starts the firmware update, but then gets stuck on the "Preparing Device for Update" screen.
Things I've tried: - Computer & 218 connected to unmanaged switch - Tried 2 computers both running Windows 7 (maybe need Windows 10/11?) - WiFi & firewall disabled - Disconnected 218 from 861v4 - Power cycled 218 - No iphones/ipads running Meridian app - Waited a couple hours on "Preparing Device for Update" screen
Any other ideas?
Thanks! Chris

Hey guys,
Initially I had the 218 and laptop both connected to an unmanaged TP-Link network switch when I was having the problems, but once I connected them both Asus router the firmware update worked right away.
Thanks for the help! Chris

I have the same problem with the 218 not playing nice with Sonos. I've been in touch with my dealer but so far, all they've been able to do is point me in the direction of a Meridian Device Updater which will not do anything beyond update to build 248. It does not fill me with confidence when the copyright tag is still dated 2021. Supposedly from build 248 I can update to future builds without the need for the Meridian Device Manager but I am not getting any joy.
I have been using the Device Manager on a Mac connected to the switch on which the 218 sits but I have not been able to update any further.
Can anyone advise why I cannot access the new build? What do I need to do to get the new firmware beyond offering up my first born?
And anyone from Meridian who can advise why they do not put this on their website so we can do this ourselves rather than go through dealers who do not seem to have any better information? It is all just a bit low-rent...

Every time there is an update, there is a new version of Device Manager. The newest version updates the 218 and 251 to 1.1 build 256.
Meridian needs their dealers to stay engaged with the customers. That way Meridian is not spending countless hours troubleshooting issues with PC's and networks that have nothing to do with their equipment.
This likely explains, at least partially, the demise of the Explorer 2 and the Prime headphone amp as USB issues with peoples computers took a ton of tech support time. If your dealer cannot provide you with the means to get the proper version of Device Manager PM me.

Rick, Thanks for alerting everyone to this.
I currently have v37 of Meridian Device Manager, so believe I need to get a later version in order to update my 218 to Build 256 (as per Bruce’s response). Is the relevant version of MDM now available on the Meridian website for dealers to download (and what is the relevant version #) ?
Thanks for your help, Steve

A brief update, in case it helps anyone track down what they need:
My local Meridian dealer has supplied me with the latest version of Meridian Device Manager, which is v52. This installs software build 256 on to the 218, which includes the ‘Works with Sonos’ functionality on the configuration page.

Is there any info as to what bugfixes/feature updates are included with the latest version?
I really appreciate the help we get on here from Bruce and Rick, but Meridian don't seem to help us decide whether these updates are essential, useful, or pretty irrelevant. Generally with software/firmware, manufacturers employ one of two mantras:
1. If it ain't broke, don't fix it 2. It is always recommended to make sure you are running the latest version
A list of bugfixes and/or new features helps me decide whether to update or not, and with say my phone or PC this is a simple decision for me personally at this time That last bit being important, because my circumstance might change and my decision changes completely. But with Meridian kit it doesn't seem easy to find out whether to pester a dealer or not for the required update.
Apologies if I've missed an obvious section where this is detailed.

So far, Meridian has not posted any release notes for the firmware contained in the Meridian Device Manager version 52. I would guess that this is out of courtesy to the relevant partners. It does however, fix the problem with Sonos devices on a shared network. So in the spirit of if it ain't broke, don't fix it, don't update if you don't have Sonos on your network.
