Good evening hive mind,
I’m hoping the collective may provide some assistance.
By way of background, my original system comprised G98DH, Sony Blu-ray, AppleTV, HD621, G68J, DSP5500, 5000C and 33s, which worked flawlessly. I configured it with the legacy app - so I’m not a stranger to setting up M gear.
Following storm Arwen our rural electricity supply has been very fragile; we’ve endured 10 or so power cuts in the last 18 months, with the result that a few months ago after another power cut, my G68 blew its second PSU big time with flames and lots of smoke. The unit was a write off.
Until I decide upon my future hifi direction, as an interim in June I purchased a C61R from a fellow Hiker but have only just got around to attempting to get my system set up. Sadly with little success on the audio side. I was assured the C61R worked, and it is running the latest firmware.
Thus far I have the G98DH connected via HDMI (and configured to output audio over HDMI) to the HD621 (I’ll add 3 x phono multichannel direct to the C61R later), which is connected to the C61R by 3 x coax to MD2. HD621 outputs are connected to the C61R as follows; 1/2 to L/R, 3/4 to C/LFE and 5/6 to surround. Despite trying all the audio output permutations from the HD621 the C61R refuses to output any audio and displays ‘NL’. The audio input to the C61 is correctly configured with MD2.
I’m stumped.
Any suggestions greatly received…
System 1: 568.2MM, G98DH, Denon DVD-A1XV, Sony CDP-228ES, UHD722, D5KC, D5500.2K, DSP33, Sony UDP-800, AppleTV 4K, Sony KE85XH9096BU
System 2: 562V, M20, AppleTV
System 3 501, 555, AppleTV, Acoustic Energy AE1

Hi,
Given its age, I don’t think that the G98 will output multichannel over the HDMI output, so try using the 3 multichannel outputs on the G98 instead (i.e., connect the G98 directly to the processor, rather than via the HD621). Alternately, try the Sony Bluray player into the HD621, with the BD player set up to output multichannel pcm via HDMI).
Can you play CD’s OK?
Brian

Yes I think you've hit the nail on the head the G98 doesn't output audio on the HDMI (I cannot recall if you might be 2 channel but I thought not) this caught me out when I wanted to try and free up a digital input and thought sod it the G98 can use the HDMI through the HD621 and I get three digital inputs back, I then spent hours trying to fault find why there was no audio before checking the datasheet to realise my error...
Main system; 861v8 ID41, DSP8000SEU fronts with DSP5500 centre and DSP7000 rears (all in lovely silver) 504, HD621 Second system 861v4 ID40 LPS, G98DH, 504, HD621, 2x DSP5200 with DSP5200 centre MD600 tucked away in study. Lots of other Meridian!

In typical Meridian fashion the different datasheets in Duncan's Meridian Info disagree with each other on what audio you might get out of HDMI on the G98DH but I still think that's where the problem lies.
