Hi
My G61 has a blue power light on the front but will not switch on. I have tried power cycling the unit but no joy.
If I whip off the lid, what should the PSU output be reading and anything else to check whilst there?
Thanks Pete

Hi Pete,
The PSU should read 5.1v on it's output.
Your issue will be that this will probably drop momentarily when the system initialises... You won't be able to see that on a multimeter!
The best bet is to order a replacement ECM60UT31 and swap it over.
Any problems, give me a shout.
Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve
After another power cycle, the blue light no longer shows, so I think the PSU has probably gone. Is there a trusted source for the ECM60UT31 in the Uk?
Thanks Pete

Hi Pete,
You have the usual sources - CPC / Farnell / RS components / Digikey
Shop around - the price varies wildly (and so does the stock!)
Good luck!
Cheers,
Steve

Could I try any of these from my box of spares, or does it have to be an exact match? The small one looks similar but doesn’t have a trim pot like the failed one on the low voltage side (probably out of a G91. The large one is likely from my old G68 before I had a LPSU upgrade ![[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]](https://i.postimg.cc/bv48Nx9n/IMG-9239.jpg)

I would not recommend putting a used power supply into your G61, especially that UMEC. The new 60 watt version Steve mentioned is not expensive. A power supply that is used, has failed or is failing can sometimes take out other parts and it is not worth the risk of installing a used one.

I reckon these G-Series SMPS have cost Meridian more customers than anything else in their history. Constant failures and often destroy irreplaceable components downstream.
So relieved that I have a G65.
Good luck with your repair.

Thanks everyone. I’ve got a new PSU on the way from Farnell.

I think you may have a problem...
The XP Power ECM60UT31 is physically taller than the VLT PSU, meaning it won't fit in the case.
The other problem is that the VLT PSU is still available at nearly £100 from suppliers that have it in stock!
You'll need to get hold of the case that fits an XP Power PSU. Drop me a PM - I may be able to help...
Cheers,
Steve
