Hello following a successful time with M33s, I decided to get M2s. I have them plugged into a Gustard X16 DAC. Balanced out of the DAC but with XLR to phono at the speaker end. They sound superb but not overly different to the M33s, I am not sure what I was expecting but the bass is not massively extended. Mids and trebles are nicer though.
It has been suggested that these work best with the 101 preamp, but I am struggling to wrap my head around why this would differ from the DAC? Would there be any merit in XLR to Din connection on the back of the speaker or is the Din and phono in principle the same?
I am not locking in volume because I am basically sat on them, but the M33s are defo more 'there' at lower volumes than these M2s, which appear to need welly to get going, too much for my distance from them.
Cheers!

Hi
I think from memory, I don't have them anymore, that the DIN socket allows a balanced connection whereas the phono is single ended.
I used mine with the 101B originally but much preferred a Classe preamp that I used for many years. I also used a 208 that was good too. I don't think there is any special symbiotics between a 101 and M2 and your DAC probably works as well.
The M33 was a much newer design and I'm not surprised at your findings. I changed to DSP speakers that are more dynamic.

Hi
l remember in the beginning auditioning the M2’sand M3’s at Hampshire Audio and very much preferred the M3’s which were much “tighter”
It was only later when l moved onto the M20’s that there was a positive “ improvement “ over the then M30’s. The M30’s were again “better” than the M3’s but too long ago to remember why except always found Meridians next generation to be an improvement.
