Can the 210 streamer be used as a USB to SPDIF convertor?

The specific use-case I am imagining would be a laptop, playing music encoded in MQA sourced from TIDAL, connected directly to the USB-A input on the 210. The 210 would then connect digitally via SPDIF to downstream Meridian components (pre-SL DSP speakers, pre-SL SSPs such as the G68, SL).

Would the 210 present the input stream from the USB connection on the SPDIF and SL output connections?

Would the 210 perform MQA unpacking and rendering (yes I know TIDAL can do the unpacking)?

Would that MQA be available on the SPDIF and SL outputs?

How would comms work if the downstream Meridian device was not SL-enabled?

Thanks

You would require Audirvāna running on your laptop to link with your Tidal account, connected to a 210. Your alternative is Roon.

If you also require SPDIF connectivity, add a Meridian 218. However, for SpeakerLink connection to your G68 (without requiring SPDIF), add an AC12.

For example, in my system: Meridian 506 > SPDIF > AC12 > SpeakerLink > 218.

Thanks for the reply.

Why would I need any software other than the dedicated TIDAL application running native on the laptop (which would have the MQA-enabled USB drivers as used for the Explorer and 818v3)?

Try the free trial to discover whether or not it meets your expectations.

Well my expectation is that it is technically not necessary. laugh

TIDAL provides the catalogue search and registry system, can identify the output device (in my case right now an Explorer2), and will stream music to it.

My question is whether TIDAL would see the 210 in the same way and stream to it. And whether it would recognise the MQA capabilities of the 210.

I do not need DSPs or advanced searching systems over and above what native TIDAL can do.

Am I missing something? cool

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I am wrong but it is my understanding that the 210's USB connection is for a USB drive and Meridian have not allowed for it to be used as a class 2.0 audio input. (Unlike on the Explorer where the USB is an audio input)
